Why do you like G1?

Recommended Posts

The new Energon series does not make much sense to me. Why would Transformers take orders from humans. And why would Megatron allow Unicron to devour Cybertron?

A, They wear following a treaty, and they have Energon. The same way that the USA would follow a treaty of some oil-rich country(perhaps Carbombya? lol)

B, SL-Galvatron, has been sucombing more to Unicron's inflewance, by the Alternate dimension Ark he was compleatly under Unicrons control, in the Curent arc he is the Vessle for Unicron's mind, he just dosn't know it yet.

One of my big pet peeves now is that all these new series and yet none of them actually look like real cars or jets - what are they desguising themselves from?

most humans will see that dayglo blocky thing with a head sticking out and say - "hey thats a robot in disguise"

:pfx Aside from Alternators, these aren't exactly disguised as much of anything but toys for children ages 5 and up.

Plus, G1 was so much an original concept here in America. RiD, Armada, and now Energon seems to be milking the G1 cow to death, along with the Pokemon craze was well. G1 had no real gimmicks, at least not until the end. No power-enhancing Minicons. No micro-anything. No rubber shells. No translucent "weapons". G1's gimmick was that they were robots in disguise.

The cartoon, along with it's partner-in-crime G.I. Joe, had cool characters and stories. True, they weren't the universe-spanning season long story arcs we see in the toons today; this I think is a Japanese influence. But they were still good.

there were Gimmicks in G1 ever scence Year 1, Soundwave's cassetes were a Gimick, combining was a Gimick, and Triplechangeing was a Gimmick.

I'll give ya that, but when I said gimmick, I was referring to something that was common to the whole toy line. The gimmick of Armada was the Mini-Cons (catch 'em if ya can!). Energon has Powerlinx on one side, Hyper Power on the other. The gimmick of G1, at least at first, was that they actually resembled real vehicles, tape decks, guns and such. No TF line since then (Alternators excpeted) has done that. In my opinion, TF's shouldn't need any gimmick but that (but gestalts are way cool! :thumb )

What about RID/Car Robots? The Autobot brothers where real cars.

i like everything about G1

Even Five Faces of Darkness? That contemptible Carnage in C Minor?

Headmasters, Targetmasters, Triggermasters, Shellformer Masters?

Pretenders? Micromasters? Actionmasters? Classic Legends that are repackages of Classic Pretenders?

Wildly inconsistent sizes and colors of everyone in the cartoon? Carwash of Doom?

Other series have flaws too. keep in mind: it's not only G1 purists who can ruin something, but ANY kind of purist. And MILITANT purists at that. Bashing one specific series is just as bad as pushing one specific series down peoples throats. If you like something, fine. say so. if not, okay then. once again, say so. But no one should be bashing or pushing "just to defend/ take out' a particular series. In short:

LET THE WORK SPEAK FOR ITSELF.

Time will tell whether it was worthwhile or not.

But... But it's us vs them. We have to win and destroy our enemies! We HAVE to take them out! If we don't, they'll take us out!

;) Go team go...

Lordy lordy.. G1 was cool up untill the movie.. the movie took everything I liked about Tfs and chucked it out the window.. namely, Optimus Prime and Megatron.. a good number of the autobot cars..

I still wonder why they did that.. I guess it was the times. But I would of loved to spend more time with those characters than the ones in the movie.. even the friggin dinobots were lamed out a little.. makes me sad. But, thats my single most gripe about that....

But I'm not one who lives by the holy code of G1 either.. change can be a good thing... just as much as a bad thing.

Yeah, but it's also a democracy. Or so it should be.. but I'm not going to bring matters of the world into this.. I'm just gonna depress myself with it. :tftongue

I really LOVE G1, for remembrances, moments, the BEST in my life.

And of course, the storyline is cool, love all G1 characters, from Prime to.. Pipes...ALL!

More than anything else, even with the new incarnations of Optimus, Megatron, and Starscream, in my head i give them the personalities from thier G1 counter parts because those characters were fleshed out so much more or maybe thier characters just appealed to me more than the new versions. *shrug*

LOL I think that's what the writers of the new TF series are thinking as well.

When you say "new" series, are you talking about Energon specifically? I can't agree with that statement if that's what you're saying.

Energon Optimus is kind of pissy, and acts more like a Sargeant than a General. He doesn't appear to be nearly as benevolent as the G1 Prime. Then again, the whole groupd of Energon Autobots pretty much act as if they were all frat-boys.
