Collection size

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

As a long time Transformers fan I have been collecting for about 20 years. As such my collection is pretty large.

At the moment I am up to 1752 figures and that is excluding the stuff that I have stockpiled at a store which I am going to have sent to me in November (I get a bonus from work which is going to be used for that.). I do not know how much figures as some of the orders go back a bit and I want to be surprised when I get them. (Like, oh yes- I also bought that one.) :-P

Today I noticed the store had a lot of Legends class figures and I jumped right on them. Even the not so different Bumblebees from ROTF, I was happy to pick up. The way I see it, a Legends Class for 3 Euro (which is the general price for 2nd hand ones there, some are 4- in the store they cost 7 Euro!) is a neat way to bulk up your collection.

I know that say a Shattered Glass Starscream (which happens to be among that lot) is a far more impressive and unique figure to have in one's collection but it still counts as just one figure whereas these small dudes count as one but I can get 25 of these for just one Shattered Glass Starscream. I would never choose any Legends above Starscream but even a crappy Transformer(most Legends figures are excellent lately but I am speaking figuratively) is still a Transformer and as such counts towards my total.

What do you guys think?

Actually, I can enjoy almost any Transformer. I can find a good thing about almost any figure so that helps a lot.

I don't buy smaller Transformers for the purpose of bulking up my collection -- but sometimes it just happens as a result. Like collecting Micromasters or Mini-Cons... I collected them because I liked them, but not because I was thinking, "Boy this is gonna crank up my collection count!" Heck, when Micromasters came out in 1989-1990 I wasn't even in contact with the fan community (it really wasn't until the mid-90s with the advent of accessible internet that fans became more connected anyway and suddenly we didn't feel so alone)... so it wasn't as if I had anyone else to boast my collection number to! :P

Having said that, the Legends Class Transformers are pretty awesome and do offer great value for money. :)

As the Epicureans would say, quality, not quantity is what matters most. With that in mind, I'd rather have my tiny collection with a few higher end figures (especially my 1/60 yamato valkyries) than a few hundred mini-cons and legends toys

On that I agree. Awhile ago I bought the Grindor figure from the Bombing Run Battle set. On the face of it, it is a pretty ridicilous colorscheme, it being orange. I bought it as it was cheap and then I noticed something really cool. On the side the chopper has color sprayed on it as if it is covered in sand.

But if you look closely you will see a Decepticon symbol in the "sand".

I do buy Legends to bulk up my collection but I love pretty much all of them. They are cheap but very well made and often easy to transform. Again, I do love my larger and more intricate figures but after endlessly trying to Transform Sentinel Prime, I do like to dumb it down for a bit.

An additional bonus is that I get these from a local shop. I have resorted to buying less from eBay or online stores outside Europe as the customs seem to be really coming down on fans who import figures and those importfees are hefty.

For a package worth 60 Euro I had to pay 8 Euro in taxes. But the customfees were 12 Euro! So that makes 80 Euro in total. That kind of limits my options as well.

Its personal preference I guess. I don't see collection numbers as being some sort of competition to have more than someone else.

Do not see it as a competition myself.

A competition can only occur under equal circumstances and in the US Deluxes cost $12 whereas in Europe they cost 20 Euro. That is TWICE as much! The US also gets tons of figures Europe does not get and since stores get a lot, they tend to dump figures are sale prices I can only dream of.

Certain store exclusives you guys can just pick up in stores (with luck- I will admit), I =have to pay an arm and a leg for. Animated Arcee cost me 30 Euro, that is four times the US retail price.

But everyone has other things to worry about too, rent/mortgage, perhsps family, other hobbies. So everyone has a different budget to spend. And of course everyone has different preferences.

I just happen to like Legend Class figures (not for the European retail price of 7 Euro though) and the effect they have on the size of my collection is a nice bonus.

Also fun for play

No need to stop the action

To transform a toy!

I agree with you

Price doubled here as well

Dingo ate my kid

Never came out here

I imported from Japan

Same as RRP

Had to get Arcee online as she never showed up here either. The Netherlands gets very few figures. We only got the RTS legends (on sale, no less) and that was it. Generations, nothing and not even all of the PCC line.

Smallest size I buy is Deluxe.
