Ferrari in TF3

Mirage is just the right name, must have been one to have been in the movie and not seen on the toy shelves...

I don't even collect the movie toys, I think just that inner obsessive compulsive nature of mine would have WANTED the line up in the movie made into toys.

Que was annoying, and did Bumblebee forget his arm turns into a cannon to let them shoot his comrad down like that, or did he just want Que dead because either he was too dorkie or even he could not fix his stupid voice box...

as of right now, Wheeljack, Soundwave, and Leadfoot all ahve deluxe class figures now, and jack and wave are officially licensed mercedes benz. i figure mirage is in the works.

Mirage is a Ferrari, not a Mercedes. The toy rights of which belong to another toy company. If Mirage gets made his alt mode will just be an ambiguous car model.

i figure hasbro could pull some strings the same way mattel had to with the corvette stingray when sideswipe was made.

do remember that he was at gunpoint and any retaliation would have resulted in more deaths. he only attacked after wheelie and brains fried the mothership, causing a distraction.

Speed Star Mirage looks pretty close to a Ferrari to me <shrug>

I never said the act of Hasbro approving a character design guarantees that a figure will be made based on said design. All I'm saying is Hasbro wouldn't approve a design of a character they COULDN'T make a figure out of.

So do you think that when Hasbro approved Alice, Reedman and Optimus Prime's combat deck, that they thought, "Yeah, we can engineer these into toys easy enough if we want to"?

I don't think so. Reedman is just outright impossible to engineer as a toy, ditto Alice who has NO alt mode kibble in her robot mode. It's funny, because in the DVD special features for the first TF movie, Aaron Archer says that he insisted that Dreamworks maintained visibly noticeable alt mode kibble in robot mode - in his word he said, "Transformers don't morph. They transform." (this coming from the man who gave us Beast Machines... right). And yet he seems to have completely ignored his own policy here when it came to Alice. That's one thing I really don't like about Alice's design as a Transformer -- she doesn't look like a Transformer because she has no alt mode kibble. It would've been much cooler to see the robot mode running around with bits of human alt mode kibble, kinda like this, but instead we got this H.R. Geiger-esque monster-movie robot. As a work of special effects, yeah, it looks great, but it does NOT look like a Transformer. Imagine if every other Transformer just completely flipped themselves inside out and looked like their Cybertronian protoforms in robot mode, completely hiding any alt mode parts. I know that from a science fiction POV there's some reason to it, but as Aaron Archer pointed out during the first movie, it deviates from the visual essence of what makes a Transformer look like a Transformer and not just an alien robot.

The movie designs are very unorthodox - going for the alien scifi look and breaking away from the traditional Japanese mecha look, and we know that a lot of fans just don't like this. But I've accepted it and I like it in general, but I draw the line where they stop looking like Transformers altogether.

Another one is Laserbeak who transforms into all kinds of different alt modes, yet his robot mode seems to remain constant. What's up with that? When every other Transformer scans a new alt mode, their robot mode changes too because of the kibble they carry (look at Old Camaro vs New Camaro Bumblebee for instance). I think we're more forgiving of Laserbeak because unlike Reedman and Alice, we actually did get a toy of this character (which I am very glad for). But of course, his alt mode doesn't appear on screen. They've just based the toy off the movie design's robot mode, then engineered alt mode mode to suit it, much like they did with Scorponok and Ravage. With Laserbeak they just made the best out of a difficult situation, and I think they did okay (although they could have done better - just pick ONE of his on screen alt modes and make him transform into that, e.g. photocopier - although the robot mode would probably be less screen-accurate, but I'd rather that over a more screen-accurate robot mode with an alt mode that doesn't appear in the film)... but they shouldn't have put themselves in that situation.

Then there's Prime's Combat Deck (trailer). That thing looked awesome on screen, but I suspected straight off that they're not going to make that into a toy. A box-trailer that transforms into a ring? Okay... we have had toys with the trailer (Cyberverse and Ultimate), but neither of them can transform to a combat deck mode that even tries to approximate how it looks on screen.

These are all moments when Hasbro should have stepped in and told Dreamworks to change the designs because it's not practical for them and Takara to engineer them into toys. They've done it before with other Transformer designs in the film (e.g. Optimus Prime's chest and tyres etc.), so why not keep it consistent with all Transformers who appear on film? If Hasbro wouldn't approve of a design that they couldn't make a toy of, then how in the Pit did they ever approve Alice, Reedman, Laserbeak's alt modes and Optimus Prime's trailer's combat deck mode?!

It would be easy to mention that Alice was obviously a Pretender homage and that a figure could be designed as such or that if the time was taken it wouldn't be difficult to design a trailer for Optimus that had removable parts for his jetpack leaving behind a convincing version of the combat deck seen in the movie. Why bother though? Everyone knows that Gok is right all the time. He was born perfect and only got better from there. Don't believe him?Just ask him. He'll be glad to tell you. Oh, and don't ever bother having an opinion contrary to his because HIS opinions are somehow fact and YOUR opinions are crap. And wrong. And he'll be happy to write you an essay telling you as much.

(looks at the previous post somewhat sharply)

If I asked this once, I've asked it a dozen times. No personal attacks in the threads. We have an ignore function for members that you would rather not read.

(adds thread to his watch list and sighs deeply)

SO, WHY feature a Ferrari TF in the movie, as well as SOundwave's car and that horrible Wheeljack or Dr what's his stupid looking face, and then not come out with the toy based around it?

Bay wanted a flashy car and didn't care if it could be marketed. :shrug

I condensed 3 pages into one simple statement :bounce

Didn't Bay make Megan Fox wash a Ferrari as a casting for TF1? Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe he just had a hard on for that particular car. I mean he did use a Ferrari in The Rock. Who says the director can't throw in a bit of his tastes in the movie? Okay wrong question to ask if it concerns Michael Bay :redface
