Alternators Jazz (WIP)

The stripes look absolutely fantastic. What process did you use to apply them. I'd like to add stripes to my Sunstreaker, and would love the results to look as good as yours.

The material is self-adhesive vinyl, marketed for making decals for RC airplanes. I forget the name, but I found it at a local hobby store that specializes in the RC car, plane and scale-model train enthusiast. I dunno if Hobby Lobby has anything like it, 'cause I didn't think about looking in the model airplane aisle.

These are the dimensions (roughly) that I used for Jazz. You might have to experiment with Side Swipe/Dead End, 'cause I dunno if they're the same width.

Wide stripes: about 3/8"

Thin stripes: 1/16"

Space between wide stripes: just under 1/4" (just wide enough that the Mazda symbol on the nose fits)

Space between wide and thin: about 1/32"

My first mistake was trying to measure and cut to shape first. That didn't work well.

I ended up cutting 7.5" strips at the above dimensions (the car is about 7.5" long, but the windows gave me extra length on the strips).

Then I just started at the nose (directly above the front grille) and worked my way back, trimming to shape as I went.

The material is self-adhesive vinyl, specifically marketed for making scale-model airplane decals, but it works extremely well for this, too. I may look into creating a flame design for Tracks later on.

And don't worry about messing it up. It peels back off without any residue, so you can lift and reapply it until you get it lined up right. (though I'd imagine it'll lose it's stickiness after too much of that)

Looks great man, better than my first one came out. Only thing I would change is pain the shoulders black to look more G1, but even if you don't, It looks great. Nice work

You know, reprolabels.com has just completed, and it's now available for purchase, some Alternator Meister stickers. They're essentially the Jazz stickers, just enlarged and modified somewhat for Meister.

And that's exactly the reason why alot of people don't like it. :tfgrin

I dont mind the design, but they needed to be changed from the martini racing stuff, and IMHO he didnt need more than a racing stripe (or to be red) the white alone was to blah, I may put a racing stripe on one after he becomes a shelf warmer (wont be long, I saw 3 in target saturday)

(a side note, meister is going to become a shelf warmer cause he doesnt have the name recognition the others have, I had never even heard of the name meister until I came to TFans last year.)
