First looks at Transformers Prime Starscream Action Figure!

Recommended Posts

Animated Starscream has the better jet mode and a nice, traditional robot mode.

I don't own Animated Starscream, but based on what I've seen I like the RotF jet mode better. And I wouldn't call the robot mode "nice" or "traditional." It's based on a very poorly drawn model.

*sigh* I promised myself I wouldn't get sucked into this, buuut...

In the world of art, "poor" and "Bad" are very difficult to determine so you have to examine your criteria almost as much as you examine the art itself.

Now, I will grant that "Animated Starscream" is not a traditional Transformer design, and is not terribly realistic, BUT as an expression of the character of Starscream, Animated is one of the best ones out there; it throws out all the technical kibble and pretensions of robotic "realism" and leaves only the form and personality.

And really, now that I think about it, this is both Animated's strength and weakness; the art is more about graphical design, form, and movement than about realism or practicality.

In a family of series in which technical design has always been a cornerstone, I can definitely see why Animated puts some people off. HECK! I even scoffed at it when the designs were revealed, stating that they weren't technical enough to be transformers. Since then? Well... I changed my mind, but that's not my point.

Now, the MOVIE Starscream is all ABOUT technical design. From an engineering standpoint? Yeah, Movie Starscream beats out the others, because he is actually designed with pure functionality in mind, granted if you had the technology to do that sort of thing.

Is he a good movie robot? Well, he's a little chunky for my taste, but ultimately I don't completely hate his design, though I DO wish form and function had found a... happier medium as it were. He may not be the most elegant bit of engineering, but he is a good example of the type of robot the movie has to offer. So YES. He is a good "Movie Robot", so long as that's the pool you're drawing from.

Now is he a good Starscream? If you look at all that went before, that's... EXTREMELY debatable. My opinion? I think there is a lot of the over-arching "Spirit of Starscream" that is generally missing from his design, so NO, I don't think he's a "Good Starscream", much in the same way that I like Resident Evil 5 as a "video game", but I hate it as a "Resident Evil Game"; it lost it's Resident-Evil-Ness along the way...

And likewise, Movie Scream doesn't have a lot of Starscream-ness going for him.

Now, as confusing as all that is, if I REALLY wanted to confuse you, I simply have to add this question: "Is he a good MOVIE Starscream?", but I think that is starting to split hairs, and potentially get overly existential, so I'm just going to wrap up while I still have the chance. ^_^;

Going to have to see this in person........

You're actually echoing my statements more or less and typing them out in a more calm manner. :tfgrin

:tfgrin hehe glad you like my presentation! :thumb

yessir! It analyzes the situation nicely.

Why should we have to accept that Starscream got a huge shaft in the movie when NO OTHER ROBOT did? All of the other designs are either movie-ized G1 designs or designs based off of their G1 personalities. EVERYONE, that is, except for poor Screamer.

It's hilarious how THE FALLEN had more Starscream in him than the robot that actually carried the name. THAT is pathetic

I think your just over analyzing to justify something, when in the comics themselves he acts like Starscream and in ROTF he does as well.

To me Movie Starscream is more Starscream then Animated Starscream

To me, appearance is worth more than how Starscream acts. Movie Starscream is butt-ugly. He's only designed the way he is so that he wouldn't be too tall. Now that's just silly.

hehe, not trying to fan the flames here or anything, but has anyone seen that hilarious picture of Starscream as the kite? Good times, good times...

Anyway... I guess we're stuck with what we're stuck with until we get a reboot or something, so I guess we're just going to have to make the best of it for the time being. :shrug

Erm... me or Atmo?

Yeah MikePrime said it nicely. Actions mean NOTHING when he doesn't look "right" while doing them. No matter how close to SS he acts, it will NOT help his case. Not unless I see a sinister grin on that face.

WHAT! THE! FUCK!!?!?!?!

Seriously that image is downright INSULTING! He just ruined an iconic SS pose by trying to mimic it and failing miserably! When SS did that in the show, he was half-laughing and taking pure joy out slaughtering an Autobot.

That pic? No...That awful looking mess just looks angry and bored. This image has proven once and for all he will NEVER be Starscream!

I think I'm gonna vomit...
