Alternators or Binaltech?

Recommended Posts

I find myself in a bit of a quandary. I've recently discovered just how awesome the Alternators/Binaltech lines and I find myself torn between which line to collect the majority of. Right Now I've got Alternators Rodimus whom I got brand new from a local toy store and found Smokescreen, whom I never really planned on getting used but complete minus box and instructions for just $10 and just love the figures. I find myself really wanting more and really like the packaging and detail of quality put into the Binaltech line, and it's not even so much the diecast, which don't get me wrong is amazing. It's the extra detail in the instructions, the card and especially the display base they come with.

My question to you guys is are the Binaltechs worth the double and triple prices I'm seeing on eBay of alternators?

Display base??

Get the Alts to have em on display, but chose the BT versions for your fave characters.

Or just get lucky like I did with ordering a cheap Alt Grimlock, and receiving BT Grim.. :tfevil :tflaugh

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Except I do have Alt Prowl on the way because of External details and he's one of my favorites period.

BT's have a pull out display base with their name and car type.

If you wanna handle them get the alts. If you just wanna dsplay them, binal.

One other thing worth noting is that the binaltech line doesn't cover the full line, so there are some figures you just can't get (like rumble and ravage). If you are going to play with them, go alternators and buy used. If you (mostly) just display, go binaltech except where you can't or prefer the alt paint job. Feel free to mix and match, that what I do. If I there is a binaltech version, I keep that one on diplay, and I keep the alt version of it in a box.

Finding a wonderland Nemesis Prime these days is giong to be $$$, I wouldn't shell out for one at the current prices.

My figures are very much left to display more then 95% of the time. every now and then Ill transform them to change up the look but thats it. don't really 'play' with them. and I hear what your saying about the full line. Again thats why I got Alt Prowl, the American look is just much more pleasing to me.

Right now I find myself wanting Arcee, Hound, Sunstreaker, Wheeljack and Meister.

I say go for Binaltechs... They look amazing as display pieces... I grew up with G1 so I love the diecast...

Its really odd Im looking into this so heavily. When alternators were first in the stores I wasn't collecting but I remember not liking them. I think it's because I don't really consider myself a car guy. But now that I've looked and had the chance to own one of my own...I LOVE the robot modes.

If you get Arcee, get the Reprolabels Sticker set.

Get both ;-) I'm more of a display guy, so where possible I display Alternators in bot mode and have the BT equivalent in car mode. Plus it means I can fiddle with the bots and not worry about paint chipping (the secret horror of the BT line).

But for long-term collector value I'd say the BTs are best, with their wonderful packaging and instruction manuals etc, are something worth having just for shear awesomeness!
