Have you ever bought newly released figures from a scalper?

Recommended Posts

So there is a lot of buzz and excitement for the new waves of Transformer figures just starting to head to local stores. With all of us die-hard Transformer fans and collectors getting ready for the hunt and about to burn a lot of money in gas and time searching store-to-store on a daily basis, it got me wondering: has anyone ever "given up" on trying to find newly released figures at local stores only to end up buying these figures from scalpers off of ebay or on online stores in desperation despite the huge price mark-up? I am seeing these new Generations Wave 1 figures being sold on Ebay (separately and in lots) for an exorbitant amount (anywhere up to $100 dollars for all 4 figures - Thurst, Drift, WFC Prime, WFC Bumblebee - in a single lot) and I am just wondering if there was anyone, here at least, ever desperate to actually succumb to these sellers to have the newest figures right away.

I mean it is no big deal if anyone has ever decided to succumb to scalpers since it is your money, but I am just curious and thought this would make a good topic for discussion. ;)

Btw: I have never used scalpers for the newest figures in the past. I have come close, but I always held out since I would eventually always run into them one way or another. Although, i have yet to run into a TF: Animated Arcee in the wild. Not that it mattered since I am really not interested in purchasing her.

Never. Never in a million years. I may be a Transformers fan, but I still have some dignity!

Also, my advice to you is: Ask around here if you're having trouble finding something. There are plenty of people here who would be willing to make a very reasonable deal with you if you asked.

Only when I was collecting Marvel Legends some years ago. I know that I had to get Vision, Hawkeye, and Deadpool on ebay when I should have been able to find them in stores.

Aren't BBTS scalpers?

Are they? If so, I guess I am guilty of buying from a "scalper" since I have purchased all my Encore Transformers from them. Unfortunately, it is cheaper than flying to Japan myself. LOL! However, I would never buy any US Transformers from them unless it is a discontinued Transformer item that I could no longer buy in stores.

Thank you Datastream. I am still kind of new here, so I am hoping to form some online friendships so I can take advantage of your guys' help and would never have to resort to a scalper. I am not really in the position to buy new figures now, but I definitely would like to hit up my fellow Transformer brothers (and sisters) on TFormers if I need too. Of course, if I could offer to help any of you, I would like to help too. :D

Not really. I can wait for most things and then have the extra money left over to get the next.

The only notable exception I can think of is when I bought Galaxy Force Starscream before Cybertron came out stateside because I HAD to have him. Turned out we didn't get that fig here anyway so I guess I made the right call there.

I agree. Most of the people here are pretty cool and will generally help you out at cost for the things you can't find locally. I've honestly had a good experience pretty much every time I've had dealings with people on TFormers.

Aren't BBTS scalpers?

No. They are an actual business that get their stock from distributors. They do purchase collections and things like that from individuals but when it comes to walking into a store and buying them out, I dont think they need to. Although, I suppose no one really knows but BBTS but I would say no just because they dont need to.

I never bought them.

I have picked up figures at one store when looking around in another and sold people the figure I just got to help them out.

Wouldn't really call that scalping though.

I just don't give into the "evil greedy scalper" reason for not finding figures.

I haven't seen any of the new release figures yet even though I know they've hit my area.

I could cry scalper, or keep in mind that so far I've only looked once.

Thats true. I network with people here all the time and ship as well as recieve figures.

Sometimes things just don't show up in your area....

Never once payed or charged more then cost and shipping with members here.

I don't even bother with TFs and Ebay anymore.

That is really good to know Liege. I will definitely hit you guys up once I am in the position again to support this crack hobby of mine. I live in a big city where the good stuff usually sells fast or is hard to find, so it is great having another option in case I am unable to find the figure I so desperately want. ;)

BBTS are scalpers, thats known truth.

If you count the figures that are marked "Not For Sale" then I have. I paid $40 for NFS Universe Onslaught
