TRU Silverstreak Question

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here. I've just got a quick question about the TRU website. Since the Silverstreak and Smokescreen reissues have been marked down to $9.99 I was thinking about ordering them, but the picture seems to depict Bluestreak I think, with the black hood/roof. Now, I know that I've seen Silverstreak in-store (for $24.99 though!) and he had a silver hood. What I'd like to know before I order is if anyone knows whether or not I'll be getting a Silverstreak with a silver hood, or a Silverstreak with a black hood (which I'm really not interested in).

Pictures are here:

It is Silverstreak. They used the original artwork on the re-issue/commemorative edition boxes.

Even my original Bluestreak was all silver (which had me constantly wondering why his name was Bluestreak when I played with him :P).

Bluestreak: http://tfu.info/1984/Autobot/Bluestreak/bluestreak.htm

Anime Bluestreak (Japan, 2002): http://tfu.info/2002/Cybertron/Bluestreak/bluestreak.htm

[edit]check that.. apparently, they used a recolored reproduction of the original art, since both of those tfu.info pages (and a box-art archive I just looked up) shows a Bluestreak with coloring opposite the art on my CSIII box--silver hood, blue body, which actually looks better, and more closely fits the "Bluestreak" name.[/edit]

yea, i hate it when they don't put the correct product on their site.

on a side note, I have one that kitbashed to look just like that if anyone is interested.

You'll get a Silverstreak with a silver hood. It IS Bluestreak - I guess there was some copyright problem with the original name.

or they just thought Silverstreak was a better name for it.

Yeah maybe. To tell you the truth, I had no idea who he was when I first saw him relisted. It's the same character, though, so I don't care.

Okay, great. Thanks guys! I guess I'll go ahead and order them tomorrow. I'd like to have the G1 reissue counterparts for all of my alts, so that was why I asked. I've already got Tracks, but I don't guess Grimlock is going to be a possibility.

That's what eBay is for. Unless you're one of those MISB nuts.. :)

Lessee.. I've got Streak, Smokes, Swipe, Tracks and Dead End (Alts and their G1 counterparts)..

I've got Alt Hound and will have Meister soon enough, but I still need the G1 bots to go with 'em..

That's exactly the problem. In the original cartoon and comics, there were two cars that were the exact same model, Prowl and Bluestreak. But since Hasbro has repeatedly used the name Prowl, thus retaining the copyright, the name Bluestreak must have lost the copyright restrictions and some other company bought it. So Hasbro, for re-issuing it, had to give it a new, but similar name, so they named it Silverstreak, otherwise the Alt. figure might also be named Bluestreak, but in the comics, Bluestreak had the black parts as blue, and the silver parts were brown :tfgrin
