When You Finally Find Your Toy

Recommended Posts

You know what I speak of. It is a figure you see on these boards 4 months before its release, one you are dying to get. You hear the first reports of it being spotted, run out and find...nothing.

This goes on, for days and weeks...and finally you find it.

And you have to stop yourself from screaming for joy in the middle of the toy aisle.

I just had that happen to me. I have been waiting for ROTF Lockdown for months. At around the start of this month (perhaps a week even before that) I began looking for him seriously. On days off I would take an hour to drive to a Wal Mart, a Toys R Us and two Targets just to find him (They are all within 15 minutes of my apartment, all in a nice row, so I don't lose a ton of gas doing so). I would visit each story maybe once a week, perhaps twice.

Now, let me preface this by saying I even have special "Hunting Gear" I wear: different jackets and stuff I wear while on the search. Today I went with a long brown barn coat, hiking boots, a red button up shirt and my favorite pair of jeans.

Finally, today, I went a different direction to go buy some football jerseys for my mother and father (long story) and hit a Wal Mart and Target there...no dice. I realized I was close to my normal stores. So I hit Toys R Us...ntohing but Mudflaps.Target is the same. I am this close to saying screw it...but I decide to try the Wal Mart.

And there he is, sitting with Brawn (the other figure I wanted).

Now imagine me, dressed in this outfit (designed to keep the sales clerks the hell away from me and send the message I am much tougher than I truly am), practically jumping up in down in the toy aisle. Me...a 25 year old man.

I'd say I lost my pride...but I found my toys, so who cares?!?!

Yes, this now means for the most part my hunting for transformers is over until Seaspray comes out, and I will miss the thrill of the hunt. But still, nothing better than that.

So, anyone else as crazy as I am?

I am just as crazy as you. And I gotta say, Im still waiting to find Universe Cosmos... :( If I ever found him or the Robot Heroes Laserbeak I'd go ballistic.

A pic with that gear on with your jumping with the toy in your hand would be epic!!

EDIT: Also, why can't I ever find Cosmos or Henkei Red Alert online? Driving me nuts.

I might just have to take that picture at some point.

I have also worn a black leather duster and a purple dress shirt, a very nice brown leather coat with a long sleeve golf shirt...

I am actually thinking when I go after Seaspray, just for fun, to go in my suit with a black silk shirt and tie, ala Barney from How I Met Your Mother, just to really make people go "What the hell?!?"

That happened to me today at Toys R US after I found Animated Arcee and Cybertron Ratchet!

Definitely know the feeling you speak of. I remember searching all over the place for Perceptor and the Insecticons at Toys R Us. TRU exclusives are the one's that suck the most ass because it seems like they are never available. I'm hunting for Arcee now. But once I found those guys I turned into a 6 year old again wanting to jump up and down for joy.

However how about when you search all over for a figure and then when you finally get your hands on it it's utter crap. :tflaugh :tflaugh :tflaugh

i thought i was all alone in my level of crazy hunting. i wear a special outfit too! i swear that walmart greeter guy and i have nodded at eachother more times than i can count before i came across "My Toy".

i went in searching for Lockdown myself and couldn't find it anywhere (i have the same walmart, target, toys r us trifecta in my area). i tried the first two, got nothing. still hopeful, iwent to walmart.

i thoroughly checked the pegs to see if somebody had hidden one in the back, no dice. BUT right as i was about to turn away and return home empty handed, disappointed, and defeated, i saw a flash out of the corner of my eye. i paused and slowly arched my neck downward and to the right of the pegs i had been perusing, and discovered...

Human Alliance Barricade.

my hands were shaking as i snatched it up. i had instinctively clutched it to my body and looked around to see if it had been planted there as a trick or something, because this was too good to be true. the aisle was of course empty with no menacing ninjas jumping out, so i quickly stood straight again, and walked as fast as i could toward the checkout.

love that rush! maybe next time i can find me a lockdown!

Normally, after purchasing the figure and getting it to my car I will often times open the thing right there in the driver's seat! That little scenario is for normal figures. Other than the Animated line of figures I was more or less a casual buyer. There wasn't many figures that thrilled me there for about three or so years. The Fatimus Prime figure from Energon about turned me off Transformers forever... thankfully Cybertron Prime redeemed that horrible figure. So I can't say that I have ever been really stoked about a figure coming out. When I found Animated Ultra Magnus on the shelf at Walmart at 6:00am in the morning on my way to work I was happy to be able to get him home and open him! Animate Jazz was another I couldn't wait to get my hands on! That figure was pure joygasm to me. This all said, nothing will compare to when I finally get my hands on the elusive Aniamted Arcee!

I will only say this... when I do find her or am able to order her, I'll be being doing things to both her and myself that are, to say the least, NOT SAFE FOR WORK! The other Animated figures like Rodimus, Thundercracker, Blackout, Wingblade Prime and Hydordrive Bumblebee are also pure joy in the waiting. But Arcee is the one figure I've been jonesing for now since she was announced!

And just as I was complaining about not being able to find Arcee....
