"Hey guys I got happy fee-oh godamnit!"

The Combaticons had just made their first appearance in the G1 cartoon, and I was pretty excited over them. Even forgiving the WTF logic that allowed a space shuttle to come from WWII parts and whatnot. But there was something that really started to bug me, and it kept up the further I continued with the cartoon and reading the comics...

They were losing their faces. Or more like, their faces were becoming expressionless visors with mouthplates.

The Combaticons were the exception... One of the strange things about G1 was just how many toys with mouthplates were given proper faces in the cartoon/comic. All the original minibot toys except Cliffjumper had faceplates, but appeared with faces in the toon, along with Beachcomber, Trailbreaker, Tracks, Perceptor, Jet/Skyfire, Omega Supreme, Reflector, Sandstorm, Hardhead, etc etc...

Bizarrely, Skids was depicted in a few issues of the UK G1 comic with a mouthplate even though the toy and toon did have a face!
