Megatron = A Prime?

Recommended Posts

I just thought of something...

Well, the Fallen betrayed his brethren, which probably included Optimus' parent. In the DS game, it states that Megatron, who is suppose to be Optimus' brother, kills Optimus' father, who is supposedly also a prime. As the Fallen states, only a prime could kill another prime. Well, Megatron killed their father and Optimus, so could this mean Megatron is indeed, a prime?

...........Penguins is practically chickens.

yeah, don't rack your brain with it, it's just an alternate universe :P

...........Penguins is practically chickens.

But do they TASTE like chicken?

But do they TASTE like chicken?

Same texture....but fishy taste.

Actually, what The Fallen said was that only a Prime could kill him, not necessarily another Prime. Also, the RotF novelization, comic adaptions, and a number of other sources state that Optimus was an orphan who was thus unaware of his lineage, having been hidden away when The Fallen ordered the total destruction of the lineage of Primes. How this relates to the DS game from the first movie and Optimus' relationship with Megatron as brothers with the same father is that very likely, Optimus was adopted by Megatron's father, who hid Optimus, and raised him as a son while hiding Optimus' true lineage from him for his own protection.

Prime and Megatron being brothers was an early concept in the movie story that was seemingly abandoned. They wrote off the references to it by saying they were brothers in arms, or something like that, not LITERAL brothers.

Even if it were true, who says all children of a Prime are themselves Primes? In the IDW movie comic book Optimus Prime used to be called Optimus, until they discovered that a symbol on the side of his head was identical to a symbol on an ancient artifact of the Primes. After that they started calling him Optimus Prime. Megatron bears no such symbol.

Yes, it was mentioned that they were brothers in the movie, though Orci left it up to interpretation what that meant, it was included in the DS game (and a few other sources) stating that Megatron had murdered their father and ate his Spark, thus establishing them literally as brothers, hence the confusion among some fans regarding RotF. So it wasn't completely abandoned, just glossed over in the movie. The problem with saying Prime's and Megatron's father was a Prime is that the RotF adaptions specifically state that Optimus was orphaned, hidden away from The Fallen to protect him from this purge, and had no knowledge of his true lineage. This leads me to conclude that Megatron's father had taken Optimus in and raised him as his own son and thus the brother of Megatron in a very literal sense. This is very similar to the biblical story of Moses, as well as similar examples in a variety of ancient myths.

so Optimus = Moses?

so Optimus = Moses?

Not quite, but close. It's the same type of archetypal hero. Other examples would be Oedipus and Perseus from Greco/Roman mythology. Moses, of course, was hidden away when the Pharaoh ordered all male children of the Isaelites below the age of two butchered to prevent the prophesied rise of a chosen one who would lead them out of bondage. Oedipus' father had been told a prophesy that his own son would kill him, so he had the child abandoned on a mountainside to hopefully prevent the prophesy. The Fallen wanted all Prime's butchered to eliminate any potential threats to him since only a Prime could kill him. Moses ended up being raised by the daughter of the Pharaoh after she found him floating in a basket on the Nile and didn't learn of his true origins until well into adulthood, Oedipus was found and raised by a shepherd also unknowing of his origins, and Optimus, raised along side Megatorn also unknowing of his true lineage until adulthood. See the similarities? In each case, the hero was abandoned or hidden away, an orphan raised by another, unknowing of his true lineage and destiny.
