^^^^That didn't stop Hasbro from making Classics Jetfire.........just saying.

No, you're right, it didn't. But he's also considerably different from the Macross figure that the original Jetfire was. That's kind of my point, though. How much grey area does Hasbro have to work with in dealing with Bandai's MRR line? I honestly haven't a clue. I'm assuming they probably overlooked Jetfire due to the history there (Bandai did license the Valk to Hasbro initially, afterall), but would they be as cool with rattling off a whole bunch of figures based on their designs?

He is considerably different, however looking at the figure one can recognize that it is in fact Jetfire. Why can't Hasbro do the same with their Gobot line? They have allowed the use of the Gobots likeness in their comics (Cykill in Megatron:Origins, Worlds Collide etc.....), couldn't Bandai have stated that this was infringing on their properties?

Im sure they would have to talk with Bandai or something. But Hasbro is the 2nd biggest toy company in the world so if there was a demand for such a thing, and they wanted to, im sure they could make it happen.

Name=Bisons Fan

Just sayin'

:tflaugh

First: Hasbro would never put effort into making a new line of Go-Bots toys, even if they were small toys. I would buy them if they looked good.

Second: If Hasbro was willing to make brand new Go-Bots, then they should not make new Go-Bots and instead make new Transformers.

Third: Classics Jetfire was a long overdue homage to the cartoon's Skyfire character, with the name and armored helmet added to satisfy fanboys. I will never get so many fans are crazy about the original Jetfire toy. If you want a new G1 Jetfire, just buy one of those new Macross toys from Japan.

As for the comics, I don't follow them, so I don't really know how similar those designs are to the original toys. Are they similar, or is it just name usage with more Transformer-esque designs? But as for that being suable, I really don't know, it's entirely possible they could have. I'm no legal expert by any means. I'm only speculating, afterall. I'm just assuming that it's probably an area that Hasbro wouldn't want to take the risk, because in the strictest sense, the original designs aren't their property. Why risk the lawsuits in the first place? As a fan I'd love to see'em, but I'm looking at it from what I presume is the corporate perspective here.. and safe money's on Has/Tak steering clear of anything that'd cost them legal battles. You know how suehappy people are these days. Why take the risk when you can do so much else with less likelyhood of money spent fighting off lawsuits? Why do something close enough that your competetor can go "hey, that's ours" when you can take, for instance, a forklift or sportscar figure you've already designed, slap some paint on it and write up a bio referencing the US cartoon?

Well those do indeed look pretty accurate (and funny :lol). My best guess (again, i'm no attorney) would probably be that stuff like that is probably protected under satire/fair use laws, but I'll leave it to someone more knowledgable to say for sure.

Just in response to your 3rd part as I agree with the first 2

For myself, Jetfire was one of the only brand new larg TFs I had when I was a kid, so there's the love. Also, alot of people from way back when never saw the Robotech show. Until Toonami on Cartoon Network I had no idea that this was a borrowed toy from that series.

Then you have to keep in mind the play value of that figure compair to most other G1 TFs, and yeah, it is enough to give you a crazy sense of nostalgia over the figure.

Then I also have to take into acount that the origional show design for Skyfire sucks ass, and I'd rather they stick with Jetfire as he's just a superior design.

The Skyfire design does not suck. It's a good design that creates a large robot and a jet mode large enough to transport the Autobots. I wish Astrotrain had been portrayed as large as Skyfire. Jetfire is now firmly established as a Macross toy. Hasbro/Takara got lucky in the '80s. No one is ever going to sell the Valkyrie fighter as a Transformers toy ever again. It's best if we move on and embrace Skyfire.
