USE SPOILER TAGS WHERE NECESSARY

District 9 ftw! This movie is so enthralling and unique I just want to go see it again, whereas usually after seeing a movie I save later viewing for when its on DVD. Going again tomorrow. If you haven't seen it yet, your missing out. Probably one of the best things about D9 is it's ad campaign, the trailers don't give away the story!

I don't want to actually put up any real spoilers (at least until everyone gets a chance to see it) suffice it to say this is the best sci-fi movie to be released in a long time.

In an interesting side note: would anyone other then me like to see a MNU Bonecrusher repaint? I'm sure Bonecrusher would hate that XD.

Going to see it tomorrow evening, so...can't chime in until then! I will say though, everything that I've heard so far in the past two days...it rocks! :thumb

If there is anything we can agree with, it is that District 9 really is FTW! This totally trumps ROTF. It was not revolutionary to the sci fi genre, but it certainly is original and smart unlike most of the movies this year. This is not a typical alien film, it is one of those that portray humans as the enemy, and it makes you cheer when all the MNU scum pop like cherries. I am totally planning on watching it a few more times in theaters. Screw the Halo movie, I am glad producer Peter Jackson and director Neill Blomkamp decided to redirect their energy (since they lost the rights to the Halo franchise) into an original idea.

You know what this movie has that Transformer did not? Depth and history for the characters. I felt so sympathetic to the insectoid aliens. What I also love about the film is the irony of the main protagonist. I would be spoiling so I am not gonna say anymore, but this is the only human you might care for (maybe the wife and the protagonist co-worker).

This film is really great smart speculative fiction. I might be hyping this to much, but I was really fond of this film. The back story on the aliens is not even fully realized yet. I can not wait for the sequel and more about why the aliens took refuge to earth in the first place.

What amazed me even more was that the production value seemed much higher then 30 million dollars. It was more like a 100 million dollars to me.

1.)

Three years... !!!

2.) yeah the 30 million dollar budget is incredible when you see how well done all the CGI is.

I was reading that ALL of the aliens were CGI except the mutilated prop ones in the science lab. Also what I'm sure helped the budget, this movie was actually shot in a REAL shanty town. Every single shred of poverty is 100% real. The only shanty house they actually had to make was the main alien, Christopher Johnson's house.

I'm willing to bet it'll make all it's money back worldwide within it's first week, thus ensuring

a sequel (I just hope it doesn't take 3 years lol).

Going to see it sometime this week. I heard it was a really good movie. Can't wait to see it. :thumb

I haven't even seen District 9 yet an I can already tell you its a better SCI-FI flick. Gonna see it sometime this week. Can't wait.

I just saw it a second time tonight. I really wanted to see if I could find any flaws that I overlooked in the first viewing and I'm happy to report that I couldn't. I can kind of see what Roger Ebert was saying

about the third act being more bullets and less story

but I disagree with him that this was a bad thing.

Even though the bullets are flying, Wikus was still struggling to do the right thing, and we see the pivotal moment in which he saves Christopher Johnson.

I think if it was drama 100% of the time through out the movie then it would get stale, and sci-fi lovers would feel slightly betrayed. But as is I feel the third act compliments it's sci-fi roots and make for an epic ending.

And I absolutely can find no fault in this movie. It's totally set the bar for future Sci-Fi flicks and I just don't know how they'll be able to extract the raw emotion that District 9 pulls from it's audience.

Can't I just rent Dawn of the Dead or Land of the Dead for $2 and see the same story?

Alright Breaker...that was phenomenal! I can't even get into it without spoiling the hell out of the plot, characters, etc. But I can say that I REALLY appreciate the dedication it took for them NOT to give away the freakin' film in the trailers!

Star Trek and District 9...best movies this year, hands down! Now if you want me to pin the blue ribbon on the best of show...I'd have to watch both several more times! They're two completely different films. But originality...definitely District 9! :thumb

While I did like RoTF, I'd have to say that District 9 is the better of the two despite not seeing it yet.
