BLOG: Ebert Says People Who Believe Revenge of the Fallen Was Good Are Wrong

Recommended Posts

Surely many of you have read Roger Ebert's review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which to put it likely, was scathing. We won't bore you with his actual review, which begins with, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a horrible experience of unbearable length, briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments." So, obviously, Ebert didn't like the film, and he felt the need to defend what he thought of the film and what he thought of others who wrote to him or directed something towards him that disagreed with him. His message to you? You're wrong. Read more.

I honestly never really cared what he had to say about it. In fact, I used to look at his reviews to see if he gave a bad review to a movie I wanted to see, if he did, I knew it would be good.

For the record, I thought I'd add this little story. Waaaaay back in the day, a friend and I went to see the movie 'Johnny Dangerously' on the day it came out. That night, as I was still cracking up from how funny it was, I saw Siskel and Ebert review the movie. BOTH guys had nothing but the worst things to say about it. In all the years of reading reviews, I doubt if (until now) I've seen Ebert go so hard on a movie.

Well, as life is often funny, Siskel and Ebert did a re-review show over 10 years later. One of the movies they went back to was 'Johnny Dangerously' and both guys suddenly had a change of heart and gave it 2 thumbs WAY up.

Some things are never truly appreciated in their own times. Movies are no exception.

Ebert just doesn't get it. He doesn't have to, because this kind of movie was not made to please people like him. It was made for people who know what movies are great for. FUN.

Ebert has gone senile. I'm getting sick of his bullshit. He hated Star Trek (2/4) but he liked land of the lost which sucked and he gives ROTF a 1, A FUCKING 1. Thats even lower than what he gave that dreaded piece of fecal matter Batman & Robin. Roger Ebert, you and your over-exaggerated reviews can BLOW ME!

Seriously though, this isn't just about people's opinions as to whether a movie is enjoyable or not, which is completely subjective. It's about making a well made movie. IN this case Ebert is 100% right. It's not a very well made movie . It may be successful, and people may find it fun, be as for being a well made movie, not a chance in heck. Gotta hand it to Ebert here. I don't always agree with him, but honestly I think he was being overly generious with saying there were 3 or 4 enjoyable parts. What parts were those again?

You do realize the man had cancer and half of his jaw line removed don't you?

I actually agreed with Eberts review, but just cause I agree with what he wrote doesn't change the fact that I liked the movie for what it was. If you get over emotional over a movie critics review, you need help.

*There are spoilers for the 3 people that haven't seen the movie*

While I think it's just silly to feel like you have to defend your review, I can see his points. ROTF at various points actually bored me. It was too long. If Bay had cut out 30 minutes we'd have a great movie here. How many out there felt the same way? Did it not feel bogged down after Prime's death? Did the pace just grind to a halt while Sam went through his moral funk? Was it necessary for Jetfire to start them in Egypt have the travel to Jordan, then BACK to Egypt? Was all the slow motion necessary? Really, we could have done without Sam's moral dilemma, we could have had the Matrix right there in Egypt (Loose the filming in Jordan, but oh well.) The movie was great until it got serious...because once it got serious, it lost its pace. It should have sped up. "The crap is hitting the fan and we have to act NOW!" Instead...

From Primes death to his rebirth...I will skip on the DVD and have a good movie.

Who's a bigger cynic, the cynic or the cynic who's cynical about him?

Wow. Just wow. TF fans are getting a little too sensitive these days. I understand that someone's first reaction to criticism of something that is important to them is to defend it. Well, now it's time to remove your self from the franchise to take a step back so you can take an OBJECTIVE look at this movie. When you do so, you will realize how bad it was. I'm not defending any of the critics here, but so many people are praising this movie simply based on the fact that it is a franchise that they have years of emotional and financial commitment invested in. It's like telling people that your child's misbehavior is ok because it's YOUR child. Wrong. When something is bad, it's bad. You can try to justify or defend it, but in the end you are fooling your self and misleading others into thinking or acting the same. I've been a TF fan for all 25 years it's been around, and this movie was incredibly insulting to me, as a fan and as someone with at least half a brain. Read this: http://cautionmag.com/?p=180 This guy's a long time fan, and after you read it you may realize that you don't have to defend this movie, whether or not you watched the franchise grow up for years.

There are many people out there that liked Transformers revenge of the fallen. Should we think that likeing something horrible to us is wrong. I mean common' before Ebert wrote anything he should have taken other peoples thoughts and feelings into account. Just because he does not like it, doesn't mean it's bad... When are people going to realize that it is ok to think differently than someone else.

Take for instance the many people out there who are and like terrorist, are they wrong for liking something others think is bad. Or what about the Nazi's who actually got along with Hitler, he wasn't such a bad guy was he.

So in response to what Ebert said all I have to say is,

What's wrong with people that like things that are inherently bad? Are they really wrong for not knowing what is actually good or not and should you really blame them? Maybe they were raised that way....
