Ebert has gone senile. I'm getting sick of his bullshit. He hated Star Trek (2/4) but he liked land of the lost which sucked and he gives ROTF a 1, A FUCKING 1. Thats even lower than what he gave that dreaded piece of fecal matter Batman & Robin. Roger Ebert, you and your over-exaggerated reviews can BLOW ME!

You do realize the man had cancer and half of his jaw line removed don't you?

I actually agreed with Eberts review, but just cause I agree with what he wrote doesn't change the fact that I liked the movie for what it was. If you get over emotional over a movie critics review, you need help.

I don't get over-emotional why is everyone mis-interpreting what I'm trying to say? It's a post and you have no knowledge of what I'm feeling like when I'm posting it. It just pisses me off that he literally ripped this movie to shreds because it didn't meet his expectations.

More than half my family has died of some form of cancer, and there's a chance I'll get it later in my life, don't get me started. I have no sympathy for him anyway.

And Bison, I attack people's opinions if they make no sense, if I haven't stated that already. like that cumonass idiot on youtube who just got his ass handed to him by Spill.com and it's community. I told you he was gonig to get what he deserves. Infact, cumonass' entire rant one how ROTF was gonig to suck was completely devoid of logic and common sense. I would have told you to watch his videos (If your mind can handle such stupidity) but he deleted them for the backlash he's gotten.

you say you'r not getting over emotional yet you say you're pissed cause he ripped the movie to shreds? Then you go on to say:

That's what pissed me off alot. He's attacking us. If the movie made over 600 million then it is good. It's an action film, take it for what it is.

You're taking it too personal. As if he spit in your eye Get over yourself. Sounds like you're getting emotional here.

i'm not tring to be mean to anybody but he could could have gotten cancer form smoking ciggerates to much earlier in his life so i wouldn't fell bad for him because he would have done that too him self but if it was passed down through his family then i fell really bad for him, one of my school teachers has cancer and i fell really bad becuase she was out most of last year so i'll it again i'm really not trying to piss anybody off because i know somebody who has cancer but if they did that to them selfs that is a different story

TLM---please don't take this as an attack, just an effort to get a point across---your bringing up of cigarettes is a good example of something that makes/has made tons of money, is endorsed and supported multiple times by the masses and yet is still inherently bad. . .

wow, i was never really for or against Ebert, but after watching him insult millions of people for enjoying a movie, and implying we are unwise for having a differing opinion, he seems like quite the douche

Why the warning after my post? We are having a civil discussion. I haven't called anyone any names.

I'm asking that the thread go back to being about Roger Ebert and the content of the blog. It wasn't aimed at just you... it was for all here. If we can't get the thread back on track the train will be stopped.

yes it does matter if people go to see it more then once like me then it makes it a good movie it just the critics don't like it doesn't mean you have to and i don't feel like getting into a fight with anybody so please don't try it with me

I'm not trying to fight with you, settle down. I'm just saying your logic is flawed and it does not necessarily follow that because it made money it's good. I think you are becoming too emotionally involved in something that you had no part in making. You need to think about what you're saying. You realize in your last post that you essentially said "I saw it twice, that makes it good"? C'mon, you're smarter than that. Not saying that you're not entitled to an opinion, this is America, after all. But if you want to prove some one wrong, it takes A LOT more than your personal opinion. You going twice only proves that YOU liked it, and that has no bearing on whether or not the movie was quality.

i'm really not trying to fight either but my personal opinion isn't good enough anymore

Wow. Just wow. TF fans are getting a little too sensitive these days. I understand that someone's first reaction to criticism of something that is important to them is to defend it. Well, now it's time to remove your self from the franchise to take a step back so you can take an OBJECTIVE look at this movie. When you do so, you will realize how bad it was. I'm not defending any of the critics here, but so many people are praising this movie simply based on the fact that it is a franchise that they have years of emotional and financial commitment invested in. It's like telling people that your child's misbehavior is ok because it's YOUR child. Wrong. When something is bad, it's bad. You can try to justify or defend it, but in the end you are fooling your self and misleading others into thinking or acting the same. I've been a TF fan for all 25 years it's been around, and this movie was incredibly insulting to me, as a fan and as someone with at least half a brain. Read this: http://cautionmag.com/?p=180 This guy's a long time fan, and after you read it you may realize that you don't have to defend this movie, whether or not you watched the franchise grow up for years.

This is exactly why I'm afraid to go see this movie. After I got over the initial sense of awe from the first movie, I slowly realized how bad it was but I held out hope for ROTF. I too, don't really care for Ebert's reviews, I mean, from what I hear about this movie and how horrible he thinks it is but at the same time he can applaud X-Men 3 as being the best in the trilogy....*sigh*

Back to Marcus Maximus' point, I've been reading comments and reviews on this and other TF boards and all those who love movie and defend it seem to echo the same key points/defenses:

  1. It's great, dumb summer action movie.
  2. Don't take it seriously.
  3. Don't expect "Shakespeare"
  4. It made so much money, it has to be good.
  5. The twins are funny.
  6. Megan Fox is hot.
  7. G1 wasn't any better.

Now out of all those defenses and praises the one that sets off the red light for me is, "don't expect 'shakespeare'" because 9 times out of 10, in my personal experience, "shakespeare" is a code word for "good writing." I'm sorry. I love transformers. I know G1 was stupid. I know it wasn't the paragon of writing but that's no excuse for the movie to follow suite. Over the past 20 years we, as fans, have seen the franchise evolve in it's various incarnations, whether it be in the comics or cartoons, from a 30 minute commercial to....well....30 minute commercials but with real characters and real writing. Blast Animated for it's character designs (I won't, I love them) but that was some of the best writing in franchise history and it's a shame to think we won't get more episodes of that and, instead, millions of kids around the U.S. are going to grow up thinking that the movie version is what TF's are all about.

Sorry, I kinda went off on a rant. I'll really wanted to say that I agree with Marcus Maximus' sentiment. I've noticed that as fans, a lot of us feel that the franchise is our baby and it really is in that the fan base has kept it going for a quarter of a century now. But c'mon! Is what Michael Bay & Co. offers us really what we want in our franchise? That's a genuine question. I really want to know.

I'm going to wait 'til this comes out on DVD to see it. The negatives I've heard about it are things I do not want to see whereas the apparent positives (It's transformers, it's shit blowing up, action, boobs, dumbass, illiterate characters and pot brownie jokes) are all things I can get elsewhere and not pay $10 to see them if I want to. Which, coincidentally, I don't. Well maybe shit blowing up.

That's my biggest irk about RotF reviews--I don't mind when they bash the plotline, the poor character development and sexual jokes, but when they go, "Oh, you actually liked the movie?! You're a F*CKING IDIOT, aren't you?!" it crosses the line.

I'll admit the film could have been better, but don't ask me to admit I'm stupid because I enjoyed it.

Instead of trash-talking Ebert, I think I'll go see the movie again, stick it to him that way.

I agree with this and I believe it implies to both views. I enjoyed the movie granted it had those serious WTF moments. However just because I don't think its the "greatest movie of all time" does not make me any less of a TF fan. IMO of course......

It's a simple action movie. It needs a decent plot to carry along, but it's main focus is on the action, obviously. Movies aren't rated based on the genre they in anymore, every critic compares them to movies that are completley in another genre. You can't compare movies like Mission Impossible to shakespear, or The Dark Knight to Grease. It's Transformers! It's full of action and it has a little bit of everything, I liked it. Was it the best movie ever? No, was it ok-to-good, yes. It's very far away from the worst movie. I've seen plently of shit, enough to fill up a landfill where they belong, YES I'M LOOKING AT YOU AARON SELTZER AND JASON FRIEDBERG! I think This Island Earth was probably the dumbest movie I've ever seen, but I'd watch it any day over Disaster Movie. People should be shot for making crap like that lol.
