According the the novelization, it survived, and is currently stored inside Prime's hip. —Matrix of Leadership

Ye gods - it's stored in his hip?

I throw my hands up. I actually cannot tell anymore if the people involved in this adaptation are lazy, or purposefully attempting to distance themselves from the source material they are adapting, or some fiendish combination of both...

I don't know specifically why Alan Dean Foster (the author of the novelization) decided to have Optimus lodge the Matrix in his hip, instead of placing it in his chest, but I can theorize. It's possible the reason is because of Prime's configuration of his chest, as it's designed in the movie. There simply might not be enough room given the shape of the Matrix in this reality. That, and Prime's chest is far more flexible than his previous incarnations in other realities, and placing the Matrix there could cause internal injury as the chest flexes around it. The hip and thigh, however, appears to have more room to fit an object of that particular shape. It's also a single inflexible mass (below the actual joint anyway). Thus, it was probably a matter of practicality. Who knows?

Maybe he meant to say hip pocket. That's where most people put there keys, and in the movie the Matrix is a key...

:)

Well, he isn't wearing pants, so he wouldn't have actual "pockets", but it's likely that he does have a compartment inside his hip and thigh.

i just finished watching it again and prime flys into the harvester and grabs the matrix out before he destroys it. the compartment thing could be exactly what he was talking about, cause the matrix reactivated primes spark, so there wouldnt be a reason to hold it in his chest.

I saw again, in IMAX this time. Caught a few cool action scenes which I believe were part of the IMAX exclusive scenes, but the overall "IMAX experience" was just about the same as the regular digital projection version I saw first.

Still loved the movie tho.

About Long Haul being a known survivor...

He was hit and fell to the ground, and moments later the whole place is blown up. I think it's supposed to be understood that he died.
