Bay Downplays Revenge Skids & Mudflap Racial Stereotypes

Recommended Posts

There has been some criticism of Michael Bay's portrayal of Skids and Mudflap in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as a straight up racial stereotype. It turns out the bots jive talk, that cannot read, and one sports a gold tooth. But Mr. Bay doesn't really see it that way and insists it's just good, clean fun and "putting more personality in." Some people see it. Others don't. Some people say "its just a movie" or "they are robots." etc......I just don't understand why they needed to play up stereotypes in order to have "comic relief." Just cause one of the voice actors is a Black man does not make it ok to play up stereotypes.

I figured that someone was going to go off on the twins. I assume they picked up their earth languages just like the other bots in the first movie. I'm sure the twins picked it up from the really bad stereotypical movies and other stuff like that.

There have been worse stereotypes. stereotypes are stereotypes, why get offended if they aren't true?

though, I don't think the second transformers is kid friendly.

I agree, there was just no reason for the Twins to play up the stereotype of the dumb white kid who acted "tough" and "street".

That is what we're talking about, right?

Beyond the racial stereotyping...the Twins were just damn annoying! These guys are the Jar Jar Binks of Transformers. :doh

GROW UP, PEOPLE!!! Does everything have to have a PC debate these days??? I personally didn't see any "stereo types" in the twins besides a modicum of the dialogue they were using, and, for some of you to claim it is a stereo type seems more racial than the dialogue itself! I dunno where you're all from, but in the theaters I saw the movie the first 2 times, everyone in the audience was laughing and having a great time at the humor portrayed by the twins! So, if you can't take a joke then maybe you should just go back to living in your plastic bubble far away from those of us with an open mind and a sense of humor!!!

i don't think they are racial because if Tom kenny is doing their voices then not an african american then is is not racial but if it is then it might be

That's my biggest issue with them, there are characters that can talk "street" and "slang" and be good at it, these guys were just irritating. :tfevil

... yeah if SKIDS & MUDFLAP are streotypes then BUMBLEBEE has been in the closet the whole two movies with his love for SAM? Plus Jive Talk isn't that what Blaster and Jazz in the G1 tv show cause you know they talked like pimps.
