plastic dying

Recommended Posts

How do you dye plastics?? I have an desert camo ruination that I would like to recolor as G1 Bruticus. Would I be better off painting it or dying it?

Well, dye isn't a magical substance that turns plastic any color you want. There are rules to it...you can only tint light colors (white plastic, light grays)...And if you are wanting a color..say green, the original plastic must be a shade that green contains, for it to dye.

Imagine your plastic is colored construction paper, like in Grade school...and your dye is assorted crayons. Altho you can color red crayon on white paper, if you color red on blue paper its gonna look purple..get what I mean? The only exception is that there is no white dye, like the white crayon...but what good is a white crayon anyhow

Odds are, you can dye the tan to Swindle(yellow), Brawl(Dark Green), and Blastoff(really really dark green), but with Onslaught and Vortex, you're gonna need some Krylon fusion...good luck

anything can be dyed black...Black is dominant over all colors, being that it is actually the absense of light..without light=no color.

Most likley. I've seen it in an art store called Micheal's but I bet you can get it at Walmart too.

They have Krylon Fusion at WalMart, about $4 a can - it's a specially formulated spraypaint that bonds better to plastic (regular spraypaint is better suited for metal surfaces).

tried krylon fusion...in my opinion its a matter of prefference when it comes to spray paints. Its a better bonding with plastic because it kinda melts into the plastic (you can also kinda smell it when you use it). I just prefer air brush, but like I said its all your own prefference.
