The "I hate scalpers" venting thread

Recommended Posts

We have a thread going on action-figure.com asking people to post pics and info of local scalpers and con artists. I hope people participate. Here's a great post from that thread:

Mike DePetra, former owner of MC Comics (known to charge 35 dollars for a 10 dollar figure) in Old Bridge New Jersey offered an ebay service for customers. I took him up on this some time ago. After he sold most of my things, he told me since I hadn't been by regularly to check up, he used the money on things for the store. I explained that I never agreed to invest in his shop and wanted to be paid what I was owed and he agreed to get me a large chunk of what he owed me that next month. The month came and went and no money showed up. He didn't return my phone calls or emails so I showed up in person looking for my money. He told me he would begin to pay me 100 dollars a week and until I was paid in full, I could take things from his store and that would go to what I was owed. I told him he should not be profiting on his own debt, so I'll take things from his store at cost. We agreed to terms and the checks started.

My job has be traveling a bit and glued to the computer the rest of the time, so some days i don't see the sun at all. I get a call from Mike telling me I need to cash each check, each week, otherwise he can't cover it. Obviously the 100 dollars was not actually mine until I claimed it. After a couple of weeks not being able to hit a bank, I told him he may as well stop the checks as they are worthless until I can catch up.

Some time went by and I wanted to go in and pick up some things. I called the store and they answered with a different name. I asked what happened to the previous owner and they told me he was evicted and is filing for bankruptcy. I emailed Mike and told him he had one day to reply otherwise I'd be filing fraud charges. He emails me back that he's filing for bankruptcy and if I have anything to say further, I can say it to his lawyer. Mind you, this guy took things from my ebay pile and said he would pay me personally for them, so now, not only is he not paying me the large sum of money he owes me, but he's not returning my things either.

So..Mike DePetra of Matawan, NJ, this one goes out to you. Do NOT do business with this person, as I'm sure he's going to pop up again. In fact, you should email the guy and tell him what you think of thieves. mdtm65@optonline.net Spread the word.

THANK YOU!!!!!! cmm21nj-

this is awesome!

And here I thought I was crazy to think of posting listings / wanted posts for scalpers...

Anyhow...when is everyone on TFans going to get on board here? Lets make this thread a positive one and instead of bitching about scalpers, lets do something that well at least make us feel a little better.

I bought a bunch of things from this guy on this site... Skullfire... he cashed thousands of dollars and never sent me the first toy. I emailed him and he never responded back.

POINT being... someone saying so... doesn't make it so. I don't see the benefit from this idea.

No one FORCES you to buy from a scalper. Use your patience and creativity and you will find your object at retail prices. Order them online, order them from another location, but simply don't support the scalpers. They are only able to do it - because it's profitable. They are scum, and there is no legitimate defense for them. IN most states, it's also illegal. So if you have proof - take it to the police - not post it on a message board.

disclaimer: The above charge in the 1st paragraph was false - and intended only to make a point.

See, this is what I'm talking about! action-figures.com has thread dedicated to busting scalpers but the second I recommend a similar idea here on TFormers.com, this is the kinda "defeat us" crap I get to read. Then I say to myself "maybe I am being a bit much here". NOW? Now here's a thread that says "I HATE SCALPERS!" :roll

So anywhoo...Sgt_York...and the POINT being...slamming and busting scalpers on a thread is suppose to be a FUN and creative way to let some steam off about the frustration we all face when scalpers has clear out the toys we are trying to get at retail.

Again Thanks to cmm21nj for sharing a positive story / experience on building a thread dedicated to busting scalpers

disclaimer: The above charge in the 1st paragraph is not meant to be a personal attack on anyone - and intended only to make a point.

there's too much negative in this thread, i say make a new one

Now THIS is a way to stop scumbags. Information is a good thing :) none of this "let them have their way and then you can get your toys" crap.

THIS will stop Mike D. in his tracks.

sgt_york : I don't use scalpers, don't even notice them in my world, but that doesn't mean I don't want them to be stopped. Yes anyone can say anything about someone and it can cause damage, but used correctly it can help put a stop to honest people being taken advantage of by assholes. Going to the police will NOT get this info to me or help others in time before he's stopped.

I've been lucky but I still feel for someone who hasn't.

THANKS cmm21mj & skullfire you both made my day !!!

THANKS cmm21mj & skullfire you both made my day !!!

You're welcome! If you head over to Action-Figure.com, the scalper info thread is in the Lair Of The Legion section.

THANKS cmm21mj & skullfire you both made my day !!!

You're Welcome...and actually it's you who made my day / night.

Thanks for the Support!!!!!

One of the things you are forgetting is that many stores "ARE" changing their return policy's. most are now putting limits as well as shorting the time (Plus in many cases it is all handled by computer so it does not matter how much you bribe the employee's)

all of you who are complaining should contact the stores at a corporate level get petitions going you would be surprised that it could work.

Which still will NOT stop scalpers from clearing the shelves and selling at inflated prices. What you are forgetting is that this is a forum to vent and pool ideas about the blight in our community.

Your idea would change the way they buy/sell items, if enough people could get large companies to change their policies. Now THAT I'd be surprised if it worked. Doesn't mean you can't try though.

I've seen signs at various retailers stating that they have the right to limit the # of "collectibles" sold to any one person, but have NEVER been stopped from buying anything I wanted that day. You have to get the policies inforced before they will work. IMHO those signs are just for show, I could be wrong but have nothing to back it up.

YOU could start another thread about the corporate evil amoung us, tear it up. But you may choose not to accuse members of a list you just joined as being forgetful or surprised, at least until you know some of them.
