"Hey look at me, I can troll around on a message board criticizing peoples threads! That counts as having a life, doesn't it?"

fixed

I never claimed to have a life :mwahaha

But seriously, can't we have, like, one "I don't like the movie aesthetic" thread? Or can we properly label our threads "filled with useless hate" so I don't have to click expecting a mature discussion of the designs and be met with more tired whining about how the film's don't have a traditional aesthetic?

Perhaps it's my fault for expecting a mature discussion :shrug

this thread makes me love devastator even more

Well, you did pretty much spoil a thread that was nothing but good natured humor. How long must the Transformers movie universe exist before we can make fun of it without fear of being attacked?

Okay, let's try to have a mature discussion.

First, I want to say that I am a Transformers fan that was put off by the movie aesthetic. So much so, that I'm not excited about the second movie and I'm not interested in any of the merchandise. I will say that I did give it a chance, and I tried very much to like the movie designs. I own several toys from the first movie, though I have since come to regret those purchases. I will admit that the first movie was a good movie (I was entertained)...just not a good Transformers movie. This, of course, is my opinion and you may feel free to disagree.

With that out of the way, I want to pose a series of simple yes/no questions.

1) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Ironhide was colored red instead of black? yes or no

2) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Ratchet was colored white instead of yellow/green? yes or no

3) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Jazz was colored white instead of silver? yes or no

4) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Blackout was named Vortex instead? yes or no

5) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Bonecrusher's name was different (and not another one belonging to a Constructicon)? yes or no

6) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Mikaela was named Carly instead? yes or no

7) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Starscream actually resembled the classic Starscream in robot mode? yes or no

8) Would the quality of the first movie be worse if Optimus Prime did not have flames? yes or no

These cosmetic changes would have made the first movie so much better for me, and I can't figure out how they would affect the story in any way, let alone make the first movie worse.

I understand that in order to look realistic, they went with a very complex aesthetic for the movie designs. But it's these simple nods to the original source material that I posed in the questions that really would have had me appreciate the movie more as a Transformers fan.

Disagree? Please, tell me why.

Okay, let's try to have a mature discussion.

Okay, in fairness, I'm not interested in a serious discussion about this one way or another. I think this thread should continue it's original purpose of making fun of the movie Transformers.

They disagree, but they can't tell you why. Believe me. I think maybe it has something to do with Scientology.

Pointing out the (IMO OBVIOUS failings) of the movie asthetic in a humorous way isn't inherently immature.

It's not like we're flaming or swearing like sailors in here. :tftongue

By trying to point out how superficial and non-important those issues are, all you do is make me wonder why you're so hung up on pointless crap.

FYI, I would have no problem with any of that having been the case except for number 7, because I love Movie SS's design. But, as you rightly point out, none of it's really a big deal so I don't sweat it.

:shrug

How is it demonstrable that the comparisons drawn in the first post are failings? They based Bumblebee's design off a Bumblebee and the old toy!?

Holy crap, who'da thunk it? And I defy to show me how there's any humor in it.

And, Ender, I don't even know who you are. How do I know you love me?

By trying to point out how superficial and non-important those issues are, all you do is make me wonder why you're so hung up on pointless crap.

Please don't trivialize my point of view by referring to my examples as "pointless crap". You can disagree without being asinine.

I point out these issues as, you say, they are superficial and non-important to you and to likely many of the general audience but not to me.

Starscream's design aside, simply respecting the colors and names of these characters (for a movie supposedly based on G1) would have gone the extra mile for a fan like myself and would not have alienated me so much from the movie universe.

Apparently I am not alone since this thread (and many others which I also didn't start) exist.
