... and a kid's cartoon about GIANT ALIEN ROBOTS that TURN INTO CARS needs to be dark to be good. And TFA isn't dark. No one's body has ever been violated and mutated and deformed, no one has ever been frozen into stasis and sent to be destroyed for parts and sold, no one has ever been wrongfully accused of treason and gone insane while imprisoned for a crime they didn't commit, no one has ever been created-- obviously intelligent and with their own personality-- only to be used without their knowledge in a suicide bombing, and no one ever has PTSD from being captured by an amoral bounty hunter, having parts of their body ripped off, then having to used the ripped-off body part to completely wipe the memory of the girl they were trying to save...

Oh, wait.

Wow this was a great post! I'm totally with you regarding the depth that's in this series. Some people just don't see it---too bad for them. I'm on a "let's just get along" kick right now, so maybe there's something redeeming about the 2007 movie that I missed...oh well.

One other thing though---which episode is about being frozen into stasis and sent to be destroyed for parts and sold?

That'd be S.U.V.-- at the end of the episode, Swindle was locked into vehicle mode, and was going to be stripped and sold at police auction.

I don't think the writer for that episode, erm, noticed that that was a really, really dark thing to suggest. >.>;; But still!

Also, I'd like to amend that the first couple Starscream clones MIGHT have known what their purpose was... but they tried really, really hard not to get caught by Megs in either case. So either they didn't know they were a two-part bomb, or they were unwilling to carry out the mission. Either case is pretty creepy.

Without quoting a bunch of stuff, I have to say Animated was yes riddled with throw backs and blah blah blah....

Sure it had no darkness to it, and maybe a show doesn't need that, but it also had no consequence. The Decepticons who were supose to be the real threat were a farce due to inactivity, and the human villans were some of the worste I've ever seen.

Still, nothing progressed, every episode unless it was a cliffhanger ended the same way, and even still, part 2 always made sure of it.

Now I know "well geewun was a bunch of one shots too" but shut up! It's 25 years later the comparison same as with the toys is invalid. Even still though, most of those stories were better. What happened in Animated, Bulkhead learned to paint!?!

The show was entertaining, but still, without consequence, or at least a decent back and forth line, and uninspired art, it wasn't long lasting. They could have very easily called it Autobots, and not Transformers, cause realy it was nothing more then them just spinning wheels when all's said and done.

Yep. Useless and underpowered non-threats, that's the 'Cons in TFA.

Thanks---I forgot that ending detail

Liege, it seems if you're responding to Alana, that you may have missed her point. . .

Anyway, please just realize that many of us disagree with most of your points, and do actually get some weightiness and depth out of this show---you know if you're going back and reading posts I'm making that I think the storyline (while couched in a kid's show) is more mature than the live action film could ever hope to be. But I think we're using different criteria to judge. Who's right? I don't think it matters. . . as long as you don't think I should think like you.
