Transformers 2 Devastator Toy Details Revealed?

Recommended Posts

So, just to clear up what I'm saying in this example: I don't buy the too complicated excuse or the excuse of price. The E-Prime Devestator can be for the cost concious parents who still want to give the kids what they want while the actual combiner toys can be for the rest.

The "complicated" excuse is probably the more accurate.

Considering the way Bay rolls, I'm guessing there's not going to be a way to cost-effecitvely have a deluxe-sized constrution vehicle that can turn into both a robot and the limb of another larger robot and have both look like they will in the movie. So we're left with a hybrid compromise: 1) individual Transformers to depict the members of the gestault in both their vehicle and "stand alone" robot mode; and (2) a gestault torso whose combines with parts that only transform from construction vehicle to "limb mode" (with no robot mode).

There's a big difference in having animation models designed with zero consideration for a toy depiction, and animation models that are based on a toy.

Not to say it couldn't be done, but also keep in mind that Hasbro has said in the past that it usually requires about 12-18 months to design and produce most Transformers, but they're not going to have anywhere near the time to do this on Bay's movie schedule, so they're going to have to cut corners here and there...

Sexactly!

:tflaugh Do you think we'll be able to anticipate part III without the "wait, this won't be Transformers like we're used to?"/"No, it's gonna be different."/"But it usually like this."/"Well, this won't be like that."/"I don't understand." back and forth?

:lol not a chance. There's never a reinvention without revolt in this fandom :lol

But that's the thing. This isn't a reinvention anymore. It's like waiting for the news that in the next episode of Beast Wars it's gonna be Trukk not Munky. No? Maybe the next episode. No? Next episode? :argh Still a munky!

Except it is reinvention. We've never seen "Movie-verce" Combiner before , and it seems they're not going with the established method, so this is a reinvented Combiner.

I have no problem with reinvention, I just don't like the way they're reinventing. I would have made different choices, but I'm not in charge. I think Transformers has more to offer than what we were given, but I enjoy the movie because I'm a fan and that's all we get. It's the same way I felt about Superman Returns and all of the X-men movies(the difference is I can still watch Superman Returns occasionally, but I haven't been able to stomach Transformers or X3 after the third or fourth time I watched their DVDs) , but I loved what they did with the two newest Batman movies and Ironman.

To each his own, I guess.

:fail proper combiner or don't bother is what i say
well said :beer
I can understand how you see it that way but ultimately it is a reinvention (as stated by NATOsomeoddnumber).

That's just a useless semantic argument.

When Beast Wars reinvented the franchise, they did not reinvent again when Magnaboss and Tripedicus came out - the notion that combiners would ALSO be animals was established when the line was established.

People that are shocked - shocked I tell you - that Bay's combiner would stray from the basic 1 robot = 1 limb design aren't paying attention.

So basically, Dev is a Mega zord now?

Well, I think you nailed it with the closet to hide in between films. I'm wondering if this same closet will be inhabited between films II and III.

And I figure it will be.

Hell, DM4EVAH's in the closet constantly.

I have no problem with a bot being a shoulder/ upper arm/ maybe part of chest, and this one splits into the lower arms type combinations (assuming that's what we're dealing with here) but that still is no excuse for them to get lazy. I could totally see it work. If I knew what all vehicles we're dealing with I'd sketch what I am imagining.

NOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!

This MUST be one of Bay's red-herrings!

Devastator deserves better than to be reduced to a booties-and-mittens-former!!
