i think i understand MISB collecters now...

Recommended Posts

MISB Collectors just seem to me as those who view collecting as a way of making money in the future, not like the out of box on display and played with as they are meant to be types. To me keeping them in the box is like getting a Lamborghini and wrapping it up in bubblewrap and never turning on the engine.

fixed, nobody in their right mind would buy a mini cooper.

I would. I did some go-kart racing last week, and I think MINI racing would be a blast. And also, the next step up from go-karts.

are you talking about the original or new cooper? if your on about the new one I think you will feel ripped off like buying energon prime for full rrp ripped off the old one how ever is a go kart with a roof and I support any one who gets one. I was going to get a coper myself but I could never find one that was just right

I keep half a portion of my collections MISB, while the other half opened just because I wanna transform them around and display them on various poses. But oh well, if I get bored or something, probably gonna open up the rest of my MISB collections... :P

I guess i've always been on the older side of this thing. When TFers first came out I was starting HS. I loved the TFers, but even then, I was more into 'admiring' them than 'playing' with them. And so now, it's not much different. I view them as art and get much more pleasure out of admiring them then transforming and playing with them. But that's one reason I don't mind when a mold comes out more than once - then you can have one in robot mode, and one in vehicle mode - without having to buy duplicates of the same toy.

Because of this, DISPLAY cases become an issue. I think half the pleasure in admiring them is the presentation. The 'bookshelves' just don't quite do it for me. Mass dust, and a bit pedestrian. I also don't like the 'cluttered' look. For that reason, i'm having a couple of curios made -- but until they are done, I have purchased quite a few and kept them MISB also.

This has become quite a quandry because I am "NOT" a MISB collector. I fully intend on opening them all up and displaying them in the curio when it's made. However, I must admit, after getting so many of them - I can understand how some people admire the MISB as well. I think sitting there all day and opening several dozen TFers out of their boxes - being careful to protect the boxes (to store) - fighting with this quantity of twisty ties - and realizing the tremendous value that is dropping with this many -- it will be both fun AND bittersweetly sad as well.

It must be done tho....

The title of the topic as it is misleading. If you open the packages and thus break the seal, it is not mint in sealed box (MISB). It would be mint in box (MIB) or to better describe it, Open Box/Package (if you open and fool around with a toy, you cannot call it mint anymore. It would be near mint or lower). This thread is basically going off topic by talking about MISB. and bashing collectors who collect this way.

You've not spent much time here, have you?

lol dude, he knows his stuff isn't MISB, he's just saying that he "gets it" now.

I look at those sealed toys and want to open them. <_<

Didn't I post this exact same info on the first page of this thread?

*proud MIB collector*

...but yes I must open just about everything, I say that, because I think that there are a few I haven't yet, not to say I won't, but there's less and less time and motivation to do so. I collect because I'm a fan of the franchise, and would like to see it continue. I collect because I love the engineering and artistic aspects of them. I collect for nostalgic purposes. I think a lot of them look excellent in their packaging display, but I do feel the need to TF them, less so on repaints, but I don't buy a whole lot of those. Again though, hooray for Japanese packaging, allowing me to open just about everything, and then return it to it's box almost unnoticed. And lets be honest, for myself at least, how many times do I have to open up a new reissue of Optimus Prime, or Megatron to enjoy the figure? Megatron in particular, if I could afford to do so, I would love to add some vintage MISB piece to my collection, as is, I've purchased multiple on different occasions, so I could take one or two pieces and get mine as close to new condition as possible (which I have pretty much managed to do).

The only thing I keep MISB is the Taiwanese hookers I pick up downtown. I open all of my other toys.

if you open and fool around with a toy, you cannot call it mint anymore.

:guh

All non-MISB collectors are rapists!
