A Bridge Too Close

I guess just the whole morbid thing of using your dead friend's body as your spaceship... maybe that's not something creepy and weird for robots, but when they revealed that their ship was actually some old dead guy, it was like "ick" to me. Not that I didn't know who he was already, but I wasn't imagining that he would have been some long-dead warrior. More like something that gets activated (rather than reactivated). It just seems an odd way to pay tribute to a hero of the Cybertronian war, to turn his carcass into a transport for space bridge technicians. And then he's brought back from the dead only to die again... I know that most characters are only there for one episode, but I guess I was hoping that after all this time, Omega Supreme's reveal would be a bit more than a day-saving deus ex machina.

I was also disappointed that Megatron's plan came to absolutely nothing. After all of that buildup. Here I was thinking that it would actually work, and that the show would end with the Decepticons returning to Cybertron and everyone being like OMG we're screwed and stuff. But that's just what I would have done. I haven't really polled the kids for feedback yet, but my oldest told me that it wasn't what he was expecting it to be. And then he went back to watching BoBoBo.

For me, in the little bit of time they had to build up his character, it just seemed natural that he would sacrifice himself. Trust me, he ain't dead. He still had the Allspark chamber in him and like 4 big fragments.

As far as Megatron's plan goes,

It's already been stated that Cybertron is gonna be in full effect in the 3rd season

, Do you think that Shockwave won't search long and hard for Megs? On top of that, this show is more kiddie than Beast Wars. If Inferno can take a full full on raw energon explosion, Tarantulas cant be blown to bits and Primal can be resurrected twice, I think the writers can bring back the Decepticons real easy like.

Is it just me or is CN really trying to sell Bulkhead hard as hell? He's the star of almost every other episode. Prime, once again, took a major back seat. I do like the Decepticon screen time in this show though.

Finally getting around to sharing my thoughts on this episode...

I hate to say it, but they lost me with this one. Hard. The way they treated the characters (particularly Omega Supreme and Sari) really bothered me. I just found myself not caring after a while, and -- yes -- I was hoping all the way up until the end that they wouldn't reveal Sari to be a robot. Which they did. And it felt like they just obliterated the character completely. I'm not sure if I'm ready to use the words "shark" and "jump" quite yet, but that's how I've been feeling ever since I watched it.

I'm familiar with your Sari-as-robot problem, but what was your beef with Omega Supreme's treatment?

And welcome back.

thx

I got the very strong impression that Omega Supreme, in sacrificing his spark to win the war, was entrusted to his best friend for protection. His best friend just happened to be Ratchet, who protected the ship at all costs. If you'll note, Optimus was surprised as hell at seeing Omega Supreme, but didn't exactly have long to react to it. My guess is that he didn't know, as Omega Supreme was just some kind of legend to the younger bots who didn't fight in the war.

Also, we have no verification that Omega Supreme is dead. After all, with no space bridge, no way to contact the Elite Guard (Blurr's gone), and no Ark/OS, The Autobots on Earth are 100% trapped and helpless to fight against the Decepticon uprising.

It did work, remember?

Blurr and one of the Starscream clones got transported before the destination signal got scrambled. Megs managed to start the Decepticon uprising. And most importantly, Shockwave is in one of the most important positions in Cybertron society, and (supposedly) no one on Cybertron but Blurr realizes this. And you are forgetting that Megatron isn't dead. Hell, he's trapped in space with his greatest enemy, with time to talk out their differences -- or at least come to a plan to mutually help each other.

I'm not sure why you have an issue with Sari being like Blackarachnia, but I'll take that to the Sari is a robot thread.

I don't want to nitpick, but in the pilot episode, Optimus wanted to do *something* with the ship that was code-named "Omega"... my assumption was that he wanted to turn it into a big old robot so it could fight off the Decepticon warship.

Not that these little technical details are the heart of my problem with the episode. But when you're disappointed in something, stuff like that stands out more.

Meh, it's not the worst ending a Transformers season has ever had.

I actually shed a tear at the end of Beast Machines, so we're not exactly on the same page there.

Also, I do want to say that I'm not trying to be like "OMG this sucked." I'm just saying that it lost me, as a fan. What made it appeal to me was just... absent somehow from this episode. (The high point of the series for me was when Grimlock started talking in Sumdac's lab. Don't ask why, I just got really unexpectedly nostalgia-emotional about it.)

Although I did lol at the Girlscream. "What part of me did you come from?" "You don't want to know." Made me think of all the Starscream/Megatron slash pics I've been able to see thx to the internets.

And you just made me think about them, you prick. :(

My biggest disappointment was probably Blur- he was kind of a one-note to suddenly bring into the frentic end of the finale.

I know that most characters are only there for one episode, but I guess I was hoping that after all this time, Omega Supreme's reveal would be a bit more than a day-saving deus ex machina.

srsly? I always thought Omega Supreme's bit was "last line of defense." When was he ever more fleshed out than this, anyway? His appearance and disappearance makes sense to me. Plus, now it leaves the Autobots without any way to get back to Cybertron, which is an interesting development.

And I'm rather disappointed that all of Megatron's work didn't come to the fruition I had hoped as well. It would have been nice, and a great place to start a new season. I'm willing to bet Sari may not completely be a robot, but in any case the reveal there was kind of out of place.

Blurr just seems like a big continuity error to me. It's like the writers forgot he was being controlled in the episode he premiered in.

If I wasn't sure we'd be getting more episodes, that reveal would leave me angry.

I don't think Megatron's plan could've extended much beyond what he accomplished with the time that they had. As soon as Megs gets to Cybertron it becomes the Elite Guard's battle, and you don't want to rob your main characters of the battle for the big finale episode. Prime and crew haven't evolved to the point, yet, that they could've repelled an invading force on Cybertron, IMO. And certainly you'd need another episode or so to give proper time to the invasion.

Although a few shots of Cybertronian civilians going through their day-to-day lives in these episodes would've been a nice reminder of what was at stake, even if Megs hadn't been able to advance his plans any further.
