lol silly usa peeps and thier redundant over sized V8 why use a 4000CC v8 when a turbo 2000CC inline 4 can do better as well as save you fuel

I can see where people are comming from, seems strange to worry about fuel conservation in a performance car.

A small engine with Turbo charging, will rarely beat a larger, normally aspirated engine due a differences in torque.

:pfx I couldn't have said it better mself :thumb

Amen brother. :pfx

Like the old saying goes there is no Replacement for Displacement :thumb

so your saying that hp 1000 is all you can put up for a road car lol meat the fulgy but fast veilside supra the import god car 1039.9 WHP thats a 3000CC inline 6

http://www.supercarstats.com/car/exotic-st...a_limited.shtml

topsecrete's s14 has a 4 celender engine that pumps out 800hp

and theres more to a perfomance car then engine size theres curb wight, whight distrobution, drive type, responce, which sadly US car suck at. big V8=heavy engine, heavy enigne=sucky whight distrobution, sucky wight distro=cant turn for 5h1t

yes you can cast the block out of aluminum but its still heavyer then anything close to its size and you can do what the viper does and put the block up front and put the driver as far back as posible but the car is huge and you can turn a hair pin in that bus

mussle cars yes they will go fast in a line but a soon as a coner comes well they suck

My friend, when Olds gets here, I have a feeling it will be a little something like world war 3 between you two. May as well say your prayers. :tftongue

Hmm where should I start? I can't believe you would even try to change me in this topic, that you know you have chance in hell of winning. I have to say one thing you have guts. I live and breathe cars, they my passion. And oh by the way I was low-balling the horsepower and torque on Troy's car and it's a Street Legal car as well. And gee who has the world record top speed in a real body cars and trucks. What kind of engine was used in these vehicles? The cars that have been breaking these records have been powered by small block V8's.

To name one of the world record holders is Gale Banks in 1987 Running on nothing but straight gasoline, this Banks twin-turbocharged Firebird scorches the Salt at 287 mph to become the new World's Fastest Passenger Car. Despite dozens of challenges, Banks 'Bird held the title for 10 years. As sited on Mr. Banks’ companies web page. http://www.bankspower.com/ He also holds the world top speed record in a Diesel truck. Here is information from his page. Surpassing Gale Banks' personal goal of 210 mph, the Banks Sidewinder smashed the world 159.647-mph record with an average speed of 217.314 mph, making Sidewinder the World's Fastest Diesel Pickup! Amazing Overall Top Speed: 222.139 mph!

And the way you make yourself sound Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, etc. makes inferior engines since they use eight, ten, and twelve cylinder engines.

Oh and in the Trans Am racing series which cars usually dominate, Corvettes and Vipers, because of their superior handling and power. Not to mention that the teams that run these cars have to de-tune their engine to make it fair. And Cadillac’s new CTS V Racing team has be dominate since their depute this year. The first race they were in they placed 1st and 2nd.

And if you want to talk about extreme horsepower the power produced by the Big Block V8's that they use in top fuel racing have over 7000 hp.

And if you want to discuss handling the new Ford GT, Corvette, and Viper will out handle your little import cars especially the GT with it being a mid-engine car. And the Supra is a very poor handling car as well.

I will admit some of the imports are some pretty nice cars, but they aren't for me. And for you to even state that you can get the same power and performance is ludicrous. And just look at all the different motor sports out there; they even separate the vehicles with different engine sizes into different groups and classes. So I guess you are right and all these people are wrong.

And yes the key to a well-balanced car is getting the weight to power ratio just right, the weight distributed evenly throughout the car.

I actually read car books and watch television shows on cars all the time. I have read articles on and watched programs about building these high horsepower import cars, and the motors just can't hold up to that much power for a long time. It is possible to get reliable power from these engines, but at 5 times or more the cost of building a small block V8. To get reliable power from a four cylinder is to completely start from the ground up with a forged block, crank, pistons the hole nine yards. But you are talking big money when you get into forged parts. That’s the case for any engine.

And you want to talk about Turbo Charged six cylinders cars we had a car known as a GNX Buick Grand National over here and it is still one of the fastest high production cars ever made. And with a few modifications they can even get in the 10-8 second ¼ miles times. The current record holder for the fastest full body car in the ¼ mile is currently a Grand National.

Below is the information.

8.02 @ 178.19 mph!

Rick Head from Innovative Turbo just blew away the record for fastest torque arm car and fastest Drag Radial car. This is not a 4 link, back halved race car. It has a full interior, weighs 3465 lbs, and uses BMR off-the-shelf Xtreme Duty suspension products with BFG Drag Radials. http://www.bmrfabrication.com

And oh and Oldsmobile had the top speed at over 200mph and they may indeed still do with their Aerotech.

And to conclude yes you can have well balanced small engine cars with a lot of power and great handling, but they are limits to the power output of these engines. So when you reach the limit you progress to the next level, and go to a bigger more powerful engine. But you must plan out what you want to build do you want a drag car, a road racer, or both. Sorry I went on so long about this guys but I know so much about cars and engines I can write and talk about them all day long.

Nice! :thumb :clap :usa

I would love a 78 Elcamino, just like the one I started to drive on. Except instead of a 6 cylinder, where only 5 work on a good day, I would prefer the SS version. Or a Grand National, my parents neighbor has one, in pristine condition, and I wish everyday that he would take me up on my offer to buy it from him.

Yeah they could use the Foose designed one from Overhaulin :thumb

I love muscle cars. But youre missing two of my favorites: '71-74 Javelin AMX in one of the Big Bad colors, and a 'Cuda/Challenger.

As to the Detroit muscle/turbo-smaller engine debate, there are excellent performance cars on both sides of that fence. But the best of these cars combine elements of both: 6cyl or smaller v8 with rear drive and lite chassis. Case in point: Supra, RX-7, any Z car, Cobra Mustang, etc.

The reason the imports cant get the respect of the muscle car guys is that they will put a drivetrain that has good performance in a bodystyle that makes NO sense whatsoever. Example: WRX/Evo. No matter how fast these are, or how they handle, no one is going to look at a 4 door sedan with the same reaction as to that 'Stang in gone in 60 seconds. No sedan will ever have the visual appeal as a muscular 2-door coupe. And any car made for a purist will have three basic elements: Speed, handling and style. All matter equally; 2 out of 3 just doesnt cut it when trying to make a truly great car.

I gotta disagree on that Javelin. They weren't the greatest. The 'Cuda OK. Although I've heard from everyone that had one or knew someone that had one, that the old Dodge cars were junk. They would rattle apart and weren't the best to drive. Maybe that's why there aren't many old Dodge's around.

Prolly not the GREATEST, but lets face it, the Jav was a damn strong effort to compete with the Big3 by the little guy. And they did so pretty well; in the early 70's, Mark Donohue won a lot of races in the SCCA series with those cars.

Hands down, that bodystyle is probably my favorite of any car (as opposed to truck) in terms of styling. Your sig says youre from Alabama? I saw an AMX page showing an AL state trooper pursuit car that was a Javelin once, wish I could find it.

Speaking of Mark Donohue and his SCCA car, here's what my Jav alternator's paint scheme would look like, although this is the '68-70 bodystyle, which is almost as cool...

But this is the bodystyle Id pick:
