VTOL Fans for a Thrust kitbash

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of modifying and repainting my Movie Air Raid (Energon Skyblast mold) into a pre-Earth Thrust. One of the main modifications will be to have Thust's distinctive wing-fans cover the molded Autobot symbols on Air Raid's wings, but I'm not sure where I'd find a fan of the right size that I can use.

I'd originally planned to drill through the wings and put the fans inside, but after looking at the toy more closely I think it would be best if I were to just file down the Autobot symbols as much as I can and split the fans in half with one half on the top of the wing and the other on the bottom.

Does anyone know of any toys or products that would have the type of fan that I'm looking for that I could cannibalise?

EDIT: I think a Terminator Hunter-Killer model kit might have what I need if I can find one in the correct scale reasonably cheaply. Does anyone know of a good place to go for that sort of thing?

EDIT AGAIN: I did some poking around and it seems that Hunter Killer model kits are way way too expensive to cannibalise, so I'm back to square one.

YET ANOTHER EDIT: I just measured the wings on my Air Raid and it looks like the fans will have to be roughly 1cm in diameter. Any ideas?

Get a tiny Revell kit, should cost around eight bucks, how is that too expensive?

You must have been looking for gigantic ones, the ones with air raid´s size are cheap.

I checked Revell's website and they only seem to have models for real-world vehicles and I couldn't find anything else on their site with visible turbines or fans. Does anyone know of any specific toys or models that would have the parts I need? I'm assuming that some people here collect more than just Transformers toys and might have run across what I'm looking for.

You could always use the turbines from the front of a jumbo jet model's engines...

Air Fresheners. Check out your local auto zone. this one has "fan action." not sure what that means exactly but some of them come with fans.

good luck.

That looks like it just might work. I actually looked into some real electric fans for this but I couldn't find any small enough.

I wonder if I could somehow do this in such a way that the fans will still run once they're integrated into the toy.

Still, if anyone thinks of anything else that might have what I'm looking for I'd still be interested in hearing about it so that I don't have all my eggs in one basket.

We have molds of Classics Thrust available for sale. Maybe that would help?

Beast Wars Transmetal Megatron?

Just replace his wings altogether
