What did I like?

Soundwave: To me he was the one that megatron should have got to do everything, I can't remember him messing anything up that he was given to do (unlike a lot of the deceps), He was cold, logical, had a wicked alt mode and loads of mini bots to back him up. If all the decepticons had been like him then the series would have been short...

Prime: :tflaugh I can't place what it is about prime... He always tries to do whats right, he was heroic, courageous and even self sacrificing. both his modes were cool. Also quite often it would seem like he was the only adult on the auto's side.

Prime was a leader who wasnt trying to be perfect unlike megs.

And both of them had the best voices. They suited the characters, which (i'll prob get slated for this..) i don't think was the case with some...

Starscreams annoyed me!

rumble / frenzy? were laughable.

megatron would get on my nerves - to much laughing.

in the end grimlock wins though! :tfevil

Big, rather stupid with the ability to be brutal dinosaur, that changes into a cool looking bot with a sword who acts the same? sold! + a whole load of soldiers who follow what he says (if he shouts enough).

But theres more, if you could talk round his temper then he was actually quite sensible until he got mad again.

Oh and he leads what is essentially the 1st of the 'other' factions besides Deceps and autos...

Jgains, I see what you mean but I'm unconvinced that any series was any deeper with character. True many changed and developed: Cheetor, Hot Shot being the most notable. But most all were introduced a certain way and stayed consistent, just more screen time to enforce character. Starscream I don't consider a change, I really don't want to make a call on that one cause alot of people enjoyed his turn of events but I never agreed with it for personal reasons. Sideways was an excellent plot twister to me, and he was bad ass the whole time. Responding to Xbob58 about Unicron/Sideways, I thought Unicron was seperate and commanding Sideways, not all out controling. I don't recall him refering to Unicron in first person but I haven't seen the show for awhile. Back to G1 characters, some might see G1 characters as bland, maybe, but They were true to life personalities for the most part. Sunstreaker/Tracks:One vain, the other also and a snob. Brawn: Tough and knows it, couragous. Blurr: high strung individual, I actually know someone like this, they never shut up. Cliffjumper: Brash and overmatched, to stupid to know when he's outdone. Mirage: The typical guy who hates to fight but fights well. Ironhide: Stubborn and hardheaded. Bumblebee: Knows his place but assists any way he can. Wheelie: Well, he just plain sucks. We'll say he's the guy you want to beat up for being a dork. Anywho, this is my opinion only, I appreciate all the good feedback, I believe this thread to be an understanding of all TF series, not a bash thread so thank you all for respecting that.

He hates G1 becuse of fan boys

is that really why? that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard

Unicron "IS" Sideways.

The only thing Ive ever seen that really approaches much character development, and I call it that since you see it in the course of only 1 episode and never mentioned again, is in the Secret of Omega Supreme. He had only been seen a few times up to that point and pretty much was a wierdo who no one could relate to. Then you see that he sought revenge on the Constructicons due to their betraying him (which was misdirected, since Megs was responsible for that in the 1st place) and a little of the Robosmasher's reprogramming had tainted his personality. After he confronts the constructicons and saves San Fran, it seems that he lets go of a little of his hate. And then its 'The End' for what should have been a very interesting ongoing saga. Its never mentioned again, and Omega is still Mr "destruction imminent, talk unneccessary" just like before.

I think this thread should be more about missed opportunities for character development. Here are some others that should have been explored more thouroughly:

Sunstreaker/Sideswipe's relationship as brothers. Arguably some of the coolest guys in G1, and you rarely see them at all. Streaker never really acted contemptuous towards anyone, especially his brother. And in the TF world, what exactly makes them brothers? TF procreation?

Tracks and Sunstreaker were both egotists, so why wasnt any kind of rivalry shown between them?

Thundercracker's being a free thinker, no just another of Megatrons yes-men. What drove him to doubt the Decep cause? Where could that have gone? Mirage had similar traits.

Hound's latent desire to be human. Why? And why couldnt he been more involved in "Autobot Spike" "Sea Change" and "Only Human" where this kind of thing was explored.

Cyclonus' loyalty to Galvatron. This guy was more fit to lead the 'Cons than anyone at the time. If you think about it, he called a lot of the shots, at least it looked like it to me, and definitely was an interesting enough character to fully explore.

And bashers and nay-sayers aside, this thread shows much more potential than a lot of what usually shows up. Much more can be learned or vented thru this than the usual "G1 is great' or "beast modes suck" thing that infests this board most of the time.
