Dropkick

Recommended Posts

Did a little hopping on my way home and found Dropkick, Payload, Longarm.....the whole wave aside from BB (of course). With limited funds caused by a few unexpected purchases I made this week I had to choose one. I ended up going with DK. He, as you've all seen, has a kickass alt mode and an awesome Robot to boot thus, my choosing of him over the others.

Alt mode resembles a modern Chevy pickup of course. Incorporated into his paint scheme is a decepticon symbol. This is done in such a way that at first glance it appears to be just another street racers flashy paint job. That is, if you didn't know better. Here there are only a few extra creases/mold seperations that aren't actually part of the original creases on the actual truck. I feel that some pieces could of been designed a little better in regards to clipping together (the doors and the front fascia) but there are really no issues with the design as it is. I'm just being picky. :thumb

Robot mode is very cool but not without a few issues. The shoulders attach via two pegs into the side of the chest and are really held into place by a joint further back in the rear section of the kibblishouse backside. A bit annoying since one of the posts on mine doesn't sit in the chest at all and the other is there but the peg is still visible. Superglue time I'm afraid. A side view of the fig reveals a very, very slim waist due to the transformation. Really not an issue since the lega are in line with this. It just looks a little odd due to the amount of back kibble. The entire alt mode is on his back...no wonder his bio says he's so pissed. He comes off looking very much like Wolverine due to the placement of two dual barrelled cannons on the top sides of his fists, a massive torso, small waist and the cheatah/feline like legs. Very cool and fierce....with window bewbs. :thumb

To counter this mad amount of kibble they gave him legs like Starscream. Actually more like BM Cheator. Hips are balljointed, giving 90 degree side to side movement, 90 forward and 90 rear. No real hip rotation to speak of other than maybe 20 degrees if your lucky and that's inward (pidgeon toed freak). The hips tend to give in under pressure much like Beast Wars Black Arachnia and Scorponoks do but not as severe. Mine are going to need a coat of superglue. Now, they're not loose. On the contrary, they're pretty tight. It's just the weight on his back that's causing issues here. They'd have done much better with ratchets here instead of balljoints. The upper most knees are ratcheting with only three setting points and no side to side movement. Really, their only purpose is to counter balance the back weight of the fig. The secondary knees are also ratcheting and give a massive number of settings. The ankles are pinned joints and also provide alot of range. Beware when attempting wide stances. The legs like to slide out causing him to either fall back or do the splits. :thumb :tdown

What the legs have just spoiled you with the arms taketh away having only two points of articulation. The hips are balljointed at the shoulders providing good articulation in all directions. The lack of bicep swivel annoys me though. The elbows are pinned and provide good forward motion but you're unable to bend the arm completely straight due to the way they were scupled. No fist swivel either. Guess I got spoiled by Bumblebee. :tdown

Heads ahoy! We're talking balljoint here. It's all side to side movement though. you can achieve some downword articulation due to a minor flaw in one of the automorph features but no looking up for this guy. The molding on the back of the head disallows this. :thumb :tdown

Weaponry is nice........The bed cover comes off to reveal an actual bed in the back of the pick up! The bed cover also contains/is/conceals his weapon, a giant fargin claw. Pushing the wheel/gear to the end of the bed causes the tailgate to fold down revealing.......wait for it........THE CLAW! This can be done while it's on the bed or off. Turn the wheel/gear to the left or right and the claw opens and closes. Pretty cool, I just wish it wasn't so big. Also, the posts on the bottom of the bedcover that allow DK to hold it in robot mode are on either side. Not in the middle. Making it looks rather alkward when he holds it since it's not center. I hate when they design weapons like that. Though, having two posts allows him to hold with both hands. 'CHECK OUT MA SKIZZERS MA!!!!' This coupled with the afformentiond dual barrelled cannons on his forearms and he's pretty well ready to kick some chrome. :thumb

Overall I like him. The peg issue on the shoulder bugs the crap out of me and I know this isn't going to be an isolated issue so be warned. Other than that though, I recommend him. He's a good addition to the cons #s.

4 out of 5 :monkey s

Good review.

The upward head articulation is a quick an easy fix. Just file or fine sandpaper the light piping plastic piece where it touches the neck.

Dropkick has so much kibble in robot mode that he makes Movie Blackout look efficient. Somehow, though, DK makes it work. It's incredible.

..The pegs on the inner front of the shoulder aren't even for the arms to clip into the chest. They're there to keep the the front end together in alt mode.

what? They aren't? .. Mine fit. I snap my figures shoulder pegs into the chest to LOCK them into place. just fine.

I was too late to getting this D-cons, already out of stock here. -_-

Dropkick has now become one of my favorite of the movie toys. His robot mode is really well done as far as looks are concerned. There are a few issues with posability. His alt. mode is not the nicest looking, and what I mean by that is how cheap it looks. The whole idea of a lowrider pickup is cool, and the custom paint job is to die for (what a way to blend in to society). Even his personality is cool with the whole "He'd rather be back on Cybertron sitting in the dark and being angry."

Is it me, or does he almost have an Optimus Prime look to him in robot mode. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to make a movie version Scourge out of him.

I just got dropkick today. He really isnt such a bad figure as a matter of fact, he's a pretty good engineered figure. The arm issue (on mine anyway) isnt as bad as deluxe brawl's. Pick one up, you wont regret it.

I'd like them to repaint this guy as a Nemesis Prime .. but that's just me =)

I love my Dropkick.. well worth picking it up. I think the only other non movie movie TF that rivals him would be Wreckage in coolness factor.

Got Dropkick two weeks ago.

This is a really cool figure.

What surprised me was how everything in alt mode not only fits together but actually stays together. Very few visible seems and cracks. Impressively engineered when compared to how well some of the other deluxe figures fit together.

Shoulders on mine are a non issues. Much better than Brawls flimsy engineering.

My only complaint if any is the restricted movement in the shoulders.

That and the oversized wrench weapon or what have you is pretty lame.

This review needs more pics
