Escalation #2 and Spotlight: Sixshot come out this week.

Neither is listed on Diamond's shipping list. Where did you hear they'd be out this week?

I got an email from Graham Cracker Comics.

yeah, graham crackers has a more reliable list than Diamond. That is, if you go to graham crackers.

I did over at tfw2005 :tfevil

I really like it... I hope the rumor that Galvatron is a separate character from Megatron is true. I like both characterizations.

Read it.

Didn't really do it for me, I have to say.

For the first time on a Spotlight, I thought the story was too contrived, too banal. By the end, I was just happy that I didn't have to bear looking at Sixshot transform for the umpteenth time and blast something into smoke.

And the Reapers? A curious bunch with a interesting approach to life, and with a kickass looking leader in the Deathbringer, but why they were so powerful was not really that clear.

I felt this was some of Simon's weakest writing on IDW yet. Sixshot is made out to be the ultimate loner, and yet despite this, the entire issue focuses on his quest to locate his Terrorcon "friends" (who get zero characterization, by the way). I just couldn't come to terms with his motivation in this issue.

I think the message Simon was trying to relay was that, despite Sixshot's reputation and singular outlook on life, even he had an inner desire for companionship. But to me, this really took away from the "badness" aspect of Sixshot. Had he actually blasted the Terrorcons to dust, I think that might have made this reading redeemable in my view and truly made him intriguing in some way. By the end, he seemed no different than, say, Razorclaw and his pals, or Bludgeon and his lackeys.

A missed opportunity, IMO. I kind of felt the same way at the end of Stormbringer, when Razorclaw had a chance to destroy Cyberton and really shake up the mythos, but elected to stay his hand.

Artwise, I will say that Ruffolo exceeded my expectations. Though I don't think it was anything stellar, it was certainly acceptable. Unfortunately, Rob's greatest performance was not enough to rescue this tale from the grip of mediocrity.

A "D+" overall.

Solid read, mostly positive with some negatives.

The positives? I think Simon is doing a good job with character focus, not throwing in too many characters at once. In Infiltration we got Ratchet, Bumblebee, and Prowl, last issue we got Ironhide and Sunstreaker, and this issue we get Wheeljack and Jazz. So its a nice balance and a good way to develop individual characters in this continuity.

Other positives? How bout Prime putting his foot down. Literally. I mean, when if ever have we seen Optimus do something like this? Not in prior comics, not in the cartoon. I like this Prime more and more.

The negatives? Well, there aren't too many, but I will say that Simon needs to watch the overall pace of the story carefully. Infiltration suffered from a slower pace, and I think these last two issues, though they have moved the story along, might be a little too slow for many fans. For example, last issue was about the humans taking out Sunstreaker and Hunter, this issue is about finding out they are still alive. That's the crux of the story, and though I personally am not bothered by the current pace, don't be surprised to hear some fans saying nothing much happened.

Overall, a "B-" issue. Looking forward to more.

I was out early this morning, and stopped by the LCS about 15 minutes after they opened. This was lucky for me, because they only got 10 issues of Esacalation, and ONE issue of Sixshot.

I agree with CS for the most part. They really beat you over the head with the SIXSHOT HAS SIX ALT MODES AND USES THEM ALL mantra. His characterization was kinda weak, but I was more bothered by how he put words together. He seemed too....flippant...to be the hard ass loner.

I'm glad this series is moving faster than Infiltration, and Prime is a hard core badass. I'm really interested in the facsimile program, and I'm happily clueless on who's human and who isn't.

Man I have to wait to this weekend to pick these up. After I got off work at the University I went over to the crappy comic shop in the town I work in an they didn't even order either book.
