The truth about SABOT

Recommended Posts

There aren't really transforming robots from outer space either.

I mean, I'm glad for the five people in the world who know about SABOT guns and all, but whatevs.

taz to the bot.

YEAH. YOU'RE TOTALLY RIGHT. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? I BET THERE REALLY IS NO SUCH THING AS A TRANSFORMING ROBOT EITHER.

Deal with it.

You know, I didn't even know that they were using such guns.

It's the only thing hot enough to pierce a transformer's crotch.

i think when we get the dvd and freeze frame it you'll see that the machine guns were firing tiny wooden shoes at the robots

Yeah well, Bay also used retouched footage of modern US carriers to "stand in" for the Japanese carrier fleet in "Pearl Harbor" rather than make accurate CGI models or (God forbid) use actual footage of the real ships. Whadaya want, some semblence of mundane real-world accuracy in your escapist fantasy?

Remember that Transformers had HALF the budget of Spiderman 3 and most of their special effects money would have been poured into animating the Transformers. Frankly, if it saves money and if it works, who cares how it's done really? After all, a good section of the Boonta Even Pod Race audience in Star Wars Episode I were just matchstick heads. ;p

... GIANT EFFING ROBOTS and your worried about SABOT rounds?

Priorities skewed'D

well, there's no such thing as a hand-held gatling gun either, but it didn't stop Jesse Ventura from carrying one in Predator 'n stuff like that :tftongue

There can be, but it's just far too impractical and kind of dangerous.

Two things that work against it:

1. it's pretty heavy - an M134 minigun weighs 65 lbs without battery and ammunition. A 1500 round ammo drum (enough for 30s of firing) weighs 130 lbs. Plus the batteries to power it - it needs 24-28V - so two car batteries .

2. the recoil - about 300 lbs of kick at peak

That's why he's called "The Body" :roll

Anyway, thanks for crapping on my hopes and dreams trench... this website explain what you said in more detail --> LINK

Here's an article about an non-mass produced man-portable microgun --> WIKI

Heh. Explained so thoroughly, handheld sabot weapons make about as much sense as repulsor rays. HEAT rounds fit the job description, I gues SABOT just sounded cooler...
