So, okay... the Allspark

Recommended Posts

Even at it's silliest, the G1 cartoon would have never resorted to having Bumblebee, or any Transformer, piss on someone.

Honestly, yes. To me, that was the most awkward part of the movie. I did not like it, and it felt completely out of place. As big-ass alien robots, none of them should be aware of having to piss, and even less what kind of humiliation it is when pissed on. And even if they did, as the 'good guys', they oughtn't do it for moral reasons.

Is it any wonder why I think Movie BB is actually Hot Shot? Hot Shot is the only TF who is mentally immature enough to think that "pissing" on people is funny.

At any rate, I hope that the creators of the Allspark show up in the sequel. The door was really left open for the possibility of them being Quintessons. Can you imagine how the Quints would look in live action? Techno-Organic Lovecraftian horrors for the win! Not to mention that they would really fit in with the Allspark's design aesthetic.

Not saying anything on the Lovecraftian Hentacle Monsters, but I would concur that movie Bumblebee is not a direct copy of G1 Bumblebee. Beyond that, it's hard to say anything. Saying that Movie Bumblebee is Hot Shot is literally saying "Movie Bumblebee is not Movie Bumblebee". This incarnation of Bumblebee is no-one but himself, and I feel comparing him with anything else is futile, because he is but himself. *shrug*

Feel free to do so, but I guarantee that if they showed G1 episodes in the movie theaters, it wouldn't be making $150 million within a week of its release.

I think Mike Prime is saying that the "We altered the tf's classic designs to make them more realistic" excuse doesn't hold up when you take into account that the movie is just an overglorified episode of the G1 cartoon. It's like how Michael Bay said that BB is not a Volkswagen because he didn't want people to mistake him for Herbie when in actuality, he meant that a Volkswagen BB would be as ghey as Herbie. So now Mike Prime is wondering if the classic designs were changed because Bay thought those were ghey too.

I think the end (when he gets his voice back) pretty much shoots down the notion that he is either G1 Bumblebee *or* Hot Shot (as if anything from A/E/C is even a part of this to begin with). He was soft-spoken and sounded almost British.

So you're saying that he was C-3PO :07laugh

You're (once again) making assumptions that aren't based in reality. I think it's perfectly legitimate not to want to make Bumblebee a VW Beetle because of Herbie -- there are already movie reviews that compared him to Herbie even with him being a Camaro. If he had actually been a VW then it would have been self-parody. Was that the only reason for changing the car? I'm sure it wasn't. But it's not like he had some nefarious plan to deceive the fandom or anything. He just wanted it to look cool, and that Camaro was cool to him. He's the director; those are the kind of decisions that he gets to make. To be totally clear, if Bay did think the original designs were ghey, then it's 100% his prerogative to change them. That's how it works.

I also see no connection between "Transformer realism" and the plot of the movie. They're two separate issues. It seems to me that this is all just sour grapes motivated by "meh the movie should have been more like the old cartoon". Sorry.

Some people would say that is why he was unqualified to direct the movie. The director should have some respect for the movie he's making.

The bumblebee pissing scene got a great reaction everytime I went to see the movie so far. I didn't mind it because honestly they are trying to make this movie appeal to a mass audience not just lifetime fans. This may be a stretch but you could also attribute it to what they saw on the "world wide web". People just need to get over the fact that its not g1, it's a totally different entity on it's own, it's not supposed to be compared to g1 and all the other cartoons..so basically they can do whatever they want and characterize the bots anyway they want

Some people can suck my penis. If they're so myopic that they can't understand why 20+ year old cartoon designs are not suitable for a live-action movie, then that's their problem. He changed the designs BECAUSE he has respect for the movie he's making; he didn't want it to look ghey and retarded.

Bay had nothing but respect for the movie he was making. You're talking about respect for the source material. And, by the way, saying, "The original designs don't work as well in a live action film in the year 2007 as they do in a cartoon TV show in 1984" does not equal a lack of respect.

You also have to respect the audience.

And the $150 million you've been given NOT to make a stupid-looking movie.
