Movie Combaticons

Recommended Posts

I think a combaticon team from movie figs could actually work pretty well.

Prime as Onslaught would need some work. Losing the sleeper and scratch building a trailer to replace his feet should look about right.

Brawl as Brawl stays unchanged.

Wreckage as Swindle just needs a new paint-job.

Same for Blackout as Vortex, or you could even get away with leaving him the stock blue-grey.

But, who to use for Blast-off has me stumped. Was thinking starscream at first, but he'd be way to big with the others as a voyager. Guess it'd have to be something from another line. Maybe bash an energon starscream to look more movie like? Classics astrotrain is great size-wise, but the bot mode doesn't fit at all. Classics Jetfire might be another idea?

I think there's potential here for a combiner too. Blackout has some arm mode potential. Stand Brawl and Wreckage in alt mode for legs. Just need to figure a way to attach them to Prime.

I've got a ton of alts I should be working on, but if I manage to find a Voyager Prime, I may have to give this a shot. In the meantime, if someone else wants to give this a try or has some better ideas, go for it.

I think you could still use classics astrotrain. all you would have to do is make his robot mode ugly to fit with the movie line. :tflaugh1

well the movie line robot modes are growing on me. you would have to change his head and give his arms and legs some "organic" looking forms.

the combaticons always confused me though. what was blast off doing with them in the first place? and why was a space shuttle the arm and a jeep the leg?

you're version looks like it might work aesthetically. hope to see more. :thumb

Although I've always thought Blast Off was the coolest Combaticon, a space shuttle really doesn't fit in with the rest no matter what limb he is. I mean, he's a space shuttle.... the others I can understand!

I can see that. I guess Blast Off could be replaced with a jet, with a different name of course.

Almost had myself convinced with Astrotrain when I realized he didn't have to turn into a train, so his arms could be replaced with something more movie like. But I've got a new idea I think works.

Having a look at FAB screamer, there's actually a pretty workable base there. They're on sale at TRU, so I decided to grab one. All he needs is a proper pair of legs and hands, and some joints in his arms.

Stealing abit from the voyager transformation, mocked him up with a pair of temp legs. The automorphing still works with them in this position as well. But folded up under the body they'll probably still be pretty big.

One more pic of potential arm modes.

Blackout's backplate has a few connection options. There's a spot under screamer's tail that could be modded up with a connector as well. I don't know how they'd look next to prime tho.

This just might happen :)

The reason why Blastoff is a space shuttle and why a space shuttle does indeed fit woth the combaticons is that a space shuttle, while not a direct combat vehicle, is still a military vehicle. Nasa Astronauts, particularly the pilot and command crew are military personel. The shuttle is a military/government owned vehicle housed and launched from a military base. It isn't a civilian vessel owned by a corporation or private individual. Blastoff's function in the team is to act as a space-based sniper.

In point of fact, the Space Shuttle has been used in actual combat exactly... never. Not for a day, not for an hour, not for a minute even. Nor will it ever be considering they are going back to the more stable and reliable missile style.

The toy company's only justification seems to have been that Space Shuttles are cool, plus they had a jet and a helicopter already. I think the OPs point that it was awkword for this group is extreamly valid.

That aside, great work on the combiner. They are some of the most exciting teams, even if the toy companies manage to mangle the concept up with multiple repaints. Keep up the good work.
