major spolier alert : Transformers 2 : Dinobots

Recommended Posts

image Remember that story from last month about an image of what appeared to be a Dinobot stomping through a scrap metal yard? Since the image turned out to come from a viral promotional website owned by the studio behind “Transformers†and TF producer Tom DeSanto said at the Saturn Awards that TF fans could expect to see easter egg surprises in the movie we had to know the answer to the burning question: are there other cameo appearances of Transformers in the movie?

I had to ask the man himself if there were any Dinobots stomping in Michael Bay’s “Transformersâ€.

DeSanto has been one of the major driving forces behind the TF movie and if you corner him at a con or industry event he’ll show you that he knows the ins-and-outs of the ‘bots universe just as much as any die-hard TF fan does. He was instrumental in making the first two “X-Men†movies faithful to the comic book universe and he also has plans for an old school “Battlestar Galactica†sequel. So I asked Tom what was up with all those cool clips of Dinobots and other Transformers on the Sector Seven website and whether Grimlock and his other dino-pals will be somewhere in the new movie. Here’s what he had to say to me:

“It is really gratifying that as an old school Transformers fan and after almost six years of work the movie is just over a month away from live action big screen immortality. Like X-Men and Battlestar Galactica this is a project I have wanted to see made since I was a kid. As a huge Grimlock lover myself there was just no room in the first movie for the Dinobots, we had to focus on the original Transformers with Optimus Prime and Megatron. But if the box office allows us to make a sequel, the door is open to a lot of the Transformers universe. I have a very cool idea on how to intro the Dinobots and Constructicons. How cool would that movie be?â€

So there you go: one of the producers already has an idea on how to get not just the Dinobots into “Transformers 2†but also the Constructicons. Does that mean we might also get to see the Constructicons merge and form Devastator? Somehow I think ILM’s programmers could swing that.

A) This thread already exists.

B) Putting "spoiler alert" and the potential spoiler in the same line accomplishes nothing.

BTW just because one producer thinks it's a cool idea doesn't mean it's going to happen. From what I've read, Don Murphy is adamantly opposed to animal transformers.

If Spielberg's still attached Dinobots may just someday be a reality.

Personally I'd rather see the Constructicons, & Shockwave as new/improved movie esque designs.

If one Gestalt does happen Devestator gets my pick. :thumb

pffff Powerglide murphey, if studio execs want them they'll get 'em. i hafta say though i don't see how the dinobots could work in the movie w/ the current designs, maybe a more WW style would work better than dinosaurs, but if they where dinosaurs then they'd hafta really on a story like the shockwave spotlight for them to work.

i just can't see a 30ft robot stomping around the natural history museum looking for something to scan.

Dinobots?

Powerglide NO!

Basically.

I'm just relaying the information. My point is that one producer's preference ultimately means very little. The decision is the director's to make. If Michael Bay says "I totally want Dinobots in the sequel" then that would carry some weight. But producers are just a buffer between the director and the studio; their creative input is secondary at best (their main job in that regard is to protect the director's vision from studio interference).

Id like to see the Constructicons, no to the dino-bots.

I got 2 words for you: Nebulons.
