I am not much of a scalper, although I have been know to take advantage of a wallycron screwup. when alt smokescreen came out I got it for 10 bucks cause of a misprice, I waited 24 hours and it was not fixed. so I bought 3 more, leaving 2 and sold them for 20 (one went for 30 cause of a bidding war) I didnt try to sell them for 50 and claim they were bt like I have seen, but I got to screw the retaileater and get some TFans a cool toy in the process.

My personal approach to walmart is to go early on Saturday Morning and hit the transformers section. Then take some of the extra Ironhides, and scorpinoks from the bottom and move them over and behind the Spiderman stuff. This makes it look like they need to restock and therefor makes them put out newer toys.

I did this once because of sheer boredom and still wondering why i was up at 530 am on a saturday. But the next day, they had Arcee, Insecticon, and even found a Mirage.

i had some experiences with scavengers which are about as bad as they can get. i used to work 3rd shift at super-K where we did all of the stocking at night. the scavengers (somewhere between 6-12 of them) got our routine down and every night they were there at the time we started to bring the freight out onto the floor.

at the time the biggest things they were after were batman and starting lineup figures the hot wheels guys weren't as annoying there. by the time we got all the freight out i'd go to work in toys and the pallets would be scattered all over, boxes were opened and the reject figures were scattered all about. it was really pissing me off! it was a huge mess, i can't even begin to describe it. calling them animals would have given animals a bad name.

so i got sneaky. every night before pulling out the toy pallets i'd go through them and pull out all the boxes the scavengers were looking for, then i'd wait until they all left before taking them out to put on the shelves. finally they caught on to what i was doing and some of them would stalk all night. so guess what, i just wouldn't stock them that night! i wouldn't allow anything they wanted onto the floor until they were gone.

eventually they got mad and complained to the day managers. my night manager totally agreed with me and allowed me to do what i did. when we explained the situation to our day managers they agreed with us. the scavengers then complained that me and my manager were hoarding the figures for ourselves and tried to get us fired. eventually we made it a policy at the store to always change the times we stocked sought after collectables usually during the day so that way they never knew when they'd be out so they couldn't stalk.

needless to say it put an end to their stalking ways, at least at our store. they even went so far as to tell people in the store that my manager and i had better watch out because if they saw us outside the store that they would kill us. every day i hoped one of those pencil necks would have been outside when i got off work that would have been the WORST mistake of their lives. lucky for them i never really saw any of them again.

Interesting story, glad it worked. But madman1366, you never should unestimate fanatical collectors, especially if they threaten your life and even if they don't hurt you they might hurt those you care for. I hope you filed a police report. You have them on the security cameras if the police need them to be identified.

they weren't fanatical collectors that much i know. the one that made the threatening comments was a profiteer. when i first started working the toy section i actually took some time to talk to these guys and they were only looking for things they could turn into quick cash. because they told me a lot about certain figures value on the market they assumed that i decided to keep the figures for myself rather than let them get them. which wasn't the case.

at first i just tried talking to them, i told them i would not bring out what they're looking for if they kept making a mess out of things. at first they were ok but soon they started to get messy again so i stopped bringing them out and would tell them we didn't get anything new in. then they began bugging others who worked in the area to check for them. then they would come at me with major attitudes because i would tell them we didn't get something in and then they would find a figure they said wasn't on the shelf yesterday and blew their gaskets, they became more and more rude and annoying. i even think we had to get security to escort a few of them out once. sometimes they would linger around the store all night long.

basically i learned in that environment that just looking at a person the wrong way could be dangerous so i never took anything for granted. people who have never worked in retail have no idea what kind crap goes on. that is one job where you see the worst sides of people on a daily basis all the while you're expected to keep smiling and put on a happy face. it's really a thankless job and most people who do it aren't paid nearly enough to put up with all that they have to.

I really wish that there would be laws against scalpers, but that would be very hard to formulate them word per word. I mean differentiating scalpers from collectors and other normal customers would be difficult from our standpoint is easy, but putting that into a bill would be another story.

BTW, and I thought scalping here is bad. Fortunately, some specialty stores (who are non-scalpers, they get directly from suppliers) are able to get their own stocks, announce them early before they arrive and allow customers to have reservations. Usually what is annoying is that when these suppliers know what TFs are in high demand and deliberately jack up their prices. Bastards.

hotwheels collectors buy them b/c HW are a cheap way to own a miniture of a vehicle you may never be able to afford. these guys are the most fanatical. try finding an unopened case of reg. hotwheels on the floor. not happening.

And yes, scalpers suck. :tdown ...some people never learned how to share as kids.

Ain't it the truth?! :tfsad I use to work plenty of retail, so much so, I vowed never to work there again too much grief and too little pay. Sadly some customers nowadays, especially collectors are so rude and far too demanding. Sigh, some people just cannot share.
