The reason all these characters existed in the Japanaese continuity is becasue that did not get the movie until 1990. They went straight from season 2 to 3.

Also bull****...

Yes, they didn't get the movie until 1989. No, that does NOT mean the movie was not part of Japanese continuity. This should answer all your questions:

So, in fact, the only reason those characters were seen in Japanese continuity is because someone goofed. Which should not be a surprise for viewers of the American cartoon. Only because these are JAPANESE shows which were not written by some lazy Sunboy hacks does not mean they're entirely flawless, after all...

I was just going by what I'd read somewhere else a few years ago, which stated that wheeljack's corpse and other scenes were edited out of the Japanese version of the movie because they planned on still using those characters.

okay, recently I bought Transformers Headmasters from amazon.uk. When I watched it, i noticed something. Prowl, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were in it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Prowl was killed in the movie and the brothers were never seen again. Did anyone else notice this?

Well, Sideswipe and Suntreaker never died in the movie, so it makes sense that they show up. Personally, I liked the fact that you had classic characters such as Hound and Sideswipe interacting with Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. I wish that they had done more of that in the american series. As for the appearance of Prowl, well they goofed, but not in the way that we think. Because the japanese didn't get the movie until '89, they probably thought some of these characters were still useable. Also, in the japanese show I noticed that Grimlock was pretty much reduced to a foot soldier who only had a couple scenes and then was never seen again. And Red alert and almost all of the Season 2 bots show up as well.

Sideswipe and Red alert died offscene cuse the newyear versions tech specs saw they were rebilt

Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

Which was as much of valid continuity by 1989 as was the orange Seeker being named Sunstorm or the "Hauler" crane from MTMTE being named Load Hauler and a former member of the future Constructicons...

Wow, I had no idea Carnage in C-Minor was THAT bad - the horrid story kept me so distracted that I didn't pay attention to any of the aforementioned errors!

Yep, definitely on crack, they were. I was laughing all the way through that one. It looks like they spent all of the animation and writing budget on those bags of coke, pot and acid. They used them for, you know, inspiration. :tflaugh1 :tfgrin

The unsused story bords show Sideswip and Red alert fighting Devistator. they might of died then?

Well, if you think about it, just because a robot's body is destroyed doesn't mean their spark is. 9no, not everyone is starscream. ) They could have built new bodies for these transformers. (YES, I KNOW THAT'S STRETCHING IT. THEY DIED IN THE MOVIE, WHY THEN DIDN"T THEY DO THE SAME FOR PRIME, ECT. ECT. ECT.) For some reason, even though I know an episode is messed up, unless it's a REALLY big screw up, I can sit back and watch it w/o analyzing it to pieces. (besides, the combaticons' personalities were stored in a computer database on cybertron, so it's also possible they did the same thing for these "stasis locked' autobots, until they had the energon available to rebuild them. Actionmasters would seem to prove this with prowl and wheeljack. (yes, it wasn't in a cartoon, I KNOW already.))
