BotCon 2007 Alpha Trion

Recommended Posts

jeebus... would you like some cheese to go with your whine? Look at it this way, you've already made a custom yourself that you prefer over this, at probably 1/4 the cost of what the Botcon Alpha Trion would probably cost you, which means that this Alpha Trion has no effect on you or your life. What else do you even have to complain about?

THANK YOU!

Anyway, there's a clear difference between the silver on the comic scan and the white in the screen shots.

The violet came from BotCon wanting the alt mode to look more uniform

They could have gotten the alt mode just as uniform by casting him in grey and applying violet and red paint apps where they were supposed to be. Even in vehilce mode, there is too much violet. If anything, his fuselage should have more red and grey, not violet. And secondly, IF you look at more screeshots, you will notice that the grey areas on his body often show as clearly grey in the animation, not white. Sure, in some shots the grey is very light, but it isn't white. The only white is the trim around the eyes and his facial "hair". There is no other white on him. If they want a more uniform alternate mode, you carry the red and grey up along the nose of the fuselage, thus red and grey become the dominant colors on the fuselage of the cruiser, with violet along the flanks. and detailing here and their to break it up.

If you're not going and never going to get this character why does it matter? They created a figure that everyone recognizes instantly regardless of whether he's painted the way you want him to.

Why does it matter? Why would it matter if Optimus Prime's colors got reversed? Why would it matter if Bumblebee's colors were in the wrong places? It is the same thing with Alpha Trion. Whether or not I planned to attend (and if I could afford to I would attend), Doesn't matter. Seeing good figures and good faithful representations of these characters is important.

Given Botcon's history, with their exclusives, (which, for the most part have been pretty accurate to the souce material), I am pretty sure, they were trying to make him accurate, and they failed to do so.

Accurate to their source material? Who? Fractyl, Packrat, Tigatron, Arcee, Antagony, the list goes on and on? They look exactly like they did in the cartoon...wait a minute. No they don't. They never existed as character before Botcon, and don't try to bring up the comics...that come packaged with the toys, of course the toy they make, and the comic they print will correcspond to one another.

From what I understand, Antagony, Fractyl and Packrat were created solely for Botcon, Arcee, while having a new, upgraded alt mode, still had the same color scheme in pretty much the same places as her original form. If you look at BotCon 2005, Ratchet, Ironhide, Fallback (Outback), and Deathsaurer, were all very faithful in color and color placement to their original characters, as are this year's Seekers, even down to the detail applications.

I think it's a great figure, it's one of those rare cases when too much cash is not really too much. I can't wait to have it here :-)

Anyway, I think those metallic colors suck. I like BotCon version better. It's Classic Alpha Trion, so it doesn't need to be so accurate.

Yes, it does. Whether you use metallics or chromatics doesn't matter. I used metallics simply to give him a more ancient appearance. I could just as easily used regular chromatic colors. However, accuracy of primary color placement is vital. Red where red is supposed to be, grey (or silver) where it is supposed to be, and violet where violet is supposed to be.

Wow! Being a long-time poster on Allspark and TFW2005, but not so much here, I've seen lots of complaints about this figure, but this is the first thread I've found to be monopolized by someone complaining that they got the color scheme wrong! I don't even know where to begin. The differences being pointed out here are petty in the extreme. I mean, I could wish that the purple (violet, whatever you want to call it) wasn't so light, but that's about the extent to which I even care about the differences between BotCon (if indeed it IS for BotCon. We still don't have anything confirmed) A3 and G1 A3. As has been pointed out elsewhere, can you instantly tell who it's supposed to be? Pretty much everyone old enough to know who A3 is seems to answer "yes" to that question. I really think that's all an exclusive homaging an old character needs to do, so I'm happy.

No, you need more than just a passing resemblance. Accuracy of dominant color placement is very important. Someone brought up Classics Grimlock and Bumblebee. Let's look at them again. Is Grimlock grey where he is supposed to be grey? Yes. Is he black where he is supposed to be black? [/b]Yes.[/b] Is he gold where he is supposed to be gold? Yes. Is Bumblebee yellow where he is supposed to be yellow? Yes. Is he black where he is supposed to be black? Yes. All of the main colors are where they are supposed to be. Yes, they add some embelishments, but the main colors are placed where they are supposed to be placed. That is the important part. Alpha Trion's torso is predominantly red and grey (or silver). Grey in the pectorals and "ribs", red along the sternum and adboment, olbiques, and hips. There should only be a little bit of violet detailing. It should not dominate the color scheme. and their should not be any white on the body.

Honestly, the only way I could tell this was Alpha Trion is because of the head, and that is not good enough.

In case I wasn't clear before, let me spell this out for you plainly. You are apparently the only person, over four separate message boards (I did not mention the official club boards earlier) who thinks that this is a problem. The rest of us simply do not see what you're seeing. Or if we do, we simply don't think it's a problem.

Deal with it.

So if I paint a potato grey it can pass as Grimlock? Colours are EVERYTHING, right?

No. You're still wrong.

No, I am not simply going to "deal with it". The screwed up. Period. Also, I am not the only one who has seen this as a problem. I may be the only person here, and even then, that isn't entierely true either. There is no excuse for getting the color placement wrong. We should not accept such poor execution. If they have the capability todo the job right, they have an obligation to do so, and we should not accept anything less. The very idea that you guys are willing to do so is unfathomable.

Not true. Color may not be everything, but it is a very important thing. You can get the sculpt right, you can get the head right, but if you get the colors wrong, it screws everything else up. You need to have the total package, and that includes the right color placement for the main colors.

And the possibility that we may simply disagree with your assertion that they "got it wrong" is apparently also unfathomable. Frankly, I think you're being unreasonable. And apparently most (if not all) others agree with this assessment. You say you're not the only one who thinks this way, but I see absolutely no evidence to support this. I see no reason that we have to accept your rants as anything other than what they are.

The colour changes are negligible. More importantly, they look good.

Are you trying to convince us, or yourself that it's done wrong?

No, they aren't negligable. They are major, particularly in the torso. Alpha Trion's torso is not predominantly violet. It is predominantly red and grey. Alpha Trion's upper arms are not violet, they are red. His forearms, hands and upper legs are not white, they are grey. His feet are not red and violet, they are grey. His hips and cod piece are not violet, they are red. The only opaque parts they got right, aside from the head were his calves and the bracers and shoulder armor. Those are supposed to be violet. Out of the entire body, three sets of parts were right. everything else, they got wrong. That is poor attention to detail. That is inexcusable. Whether you like it or not does not matter. They screwed up.
