BotCon '07 Convention Set Preview II: Thundercracker

Recommended Posts

Yeah nice work Blitz!

Not to bash the Botcon folks too much more -but the stripes going straight back while the wings dovetail looks awkward and lazy regardless of whether it matches the other seekers or not.

Also, there are the G1-style sticker-type apps near the cockpit in jet mode that are fairly useless and jarring as well.

Black outlines FTL

Are we talking about the same thing? I am referring to the yellow triangles and red dashes.

yeah, cuz the yellow triangles have black outlines and stuff

One thing I loved about the G1 stickers is that you could always count on them to have completely random and pointless design elements. :thumb

durr oh yeah duh

I haven't even seen 1 anti-G1 post in any of the BotCon threads!?! :tfwtf

Yeah...I see that now. I was a bit sloshed last night and only got as far as page two of this thread before I commented. It seemed like people were dumping on him because he was too G1 colored...but that was before this thread really took off in other directions.

Never mix your Guinness with TFans, Bad Ju-ju. :tdown

:tflaugh1 I've made that mistake before... :redface

god this board is so emo, i read 5 pages in and decided to skip the rest.

T.Cracker looks great on his own, and might look good with the rest of the botcon seekers but they just don't seem to fit in with the classics line very well, although that might change with the production pieces and when it's shown side by side with them. if i had the cash i'd probably pick them up, but thus far the best seeker i've seen is skywarp.

There's a lot of angst over this set. It's getting annoying to see the same debate erupt in these threads.

Thundercracker looks nice, not really surprising there though.

getting back to the toy this is how i thoght a classics TC would look

Looks really good. Definitely looks better then the botcon version.

Not to say I don't like that the botcon version, but it's just too much the G1 version. No update what so ever, while Classics was all about a modern reimagining of the classic characters. Non of the CL seekers was a direct copy from the G1 version.

I do like that they chose to go with the toy colors instead of the cartoon colors. Always liked the blue on the toy better.

What I don't understand... If the Classic line was/is for the adult fans (not the kids who really support the TF toy line) then why not sell the three main seekers in retail for the Deluxe price? Starscream sold out and Skywarp probably would have sooner if not paired with Magnus. Ramjet is clogging the shelves. Do you know why? Most older fans don't know the difference between Ramjet and Dirge due to the name swapping I've seen on this figure :lol

As a TF Club Member I will order two of these "Seekah Sets" - not jacking up the price and selling them on eBay is going to be the tough decision :schin

Personally, I was happy to see Ramjet get some love, precisely because he's a second-tier character by virtue of his 1985 remold status... it's probably the only time we'll see that happen. Thrust and Dirge aren't so lucky, it appears. (And yeah, I do think the wings matter; I only had Ramjet when I was a kid, and it was so super awesome to see Classics Ramjet done up as a perfect homage / update of the toy. I feel for Thrust / Dirge fans.)

I totally Agree with you Pete on Ramjet and I agree with the wings issue on Dirge and Thrust. Dirge is my 2nd-Fav. Seeker overall, and though I understand and accept the treatement given to him via the BotCon Set, it was pretty "meh-inducing" to see no wing remolding at first. I personally like that they kept the tailfins (finally) but if I were buying this BC Set I'd feel a bit ripped by the no new wings on Dirge.

I'm new to these sights. Hell it was the classics that started me buying transformers again and introducing them to my sons to the G1 cartoons and they really enjoy them. And when ever I'd pop up with another transformer to add to there now growing collection there eyes would light up the same way mine did some 20 plus years ago.

That being said, I have no love for Botcon.

And with the insight from allot of the posters here and on other sights exposing allot of hasbros shady pratices and repeatingly droping the ball when it comes to fan request. Not to mention discontinuing the classic line that won my attention in the first place. It really lowers Hasbros stock with me.

In my last post ask why doesn't Hasbro want my money anymore, but the real question is what will Hasbro do now to earn it.

Welcome.

I have to agree with a lot of that but at the same time not really care either way.

It would have been nice for Hasbro to cash in on the potential of these & make em available for everyone at retail prices. IMO it didn't happen because Hasbro right now is concentrating on getting a crapload of movie merchandise out & have been doing so for the past two years. So if anybodys to blame for this & the cancellation/hiatus of the Classics line it's Micheal Bay & his stupid movie. j/k.

Actually I'm a big supporter of the movie & recent direction TFs have been taken in. Time for something new.

Back on topic. I don't see how Thundercracker. Dirge, & Thrust look any more G1 than Classics Skywarp. Both Ramjet & SS got updated with modern paint schemes however Skywarp is a purple/black jet. Looks no more out of place than any of the botcon seekers. TC is done really nice & G1 esque but it's not something I need right now. Not at what the whole package is costing anyway.

Classics was fun while it lasted & awsome additions these would make but with whole line of movie figs to keep up with this Summer I don't think I'll feel to badly about not adding this set.

Kudos to those of you who do though. :thumb
