I can remember being a dork for liking star wars in junior high. Then the re-releases came :epic and everyone like SW again. I was elevated by my longstanding fandom to... no one special. :tfwtf

Then there was Jar-Jar... :puke And Hayden... :stone and episode III was pretty good. :thumb

But I'm still just a dork again. :beer

Wow, I have to say the same thing. I started buying the Kenner "Power of the Force" toys like RIGHT when they came out (I already owned some of the original movie toys even though I wasn't born when they came out). I was a Star Wars dork before the "Special Additions". Then I got reduced to "just another one of those guys."

Transformers are as good or even better than they've ever been. Enjoy it while it lasts! :thumb

same here.

my little sisters freinds keep asking me about TF's, mainly cuz they love Shia Lebeuof, and he's in the movie.

I'm glad to see more people getting into the hobby.

just like when I palyed paintball, more people = cheaper stuff.

or, at least it means people will keep merch moving off the shelves, and I wont be sorting through piles or cybertron basics lookin for the rest of the classics minicons.

unlike many, I dont believe that the biggist crime in the world is being a noob. we were all noobs once.

except those guys that bought WoW because they were already LV 60 experts at the game. those guys are jerks.

though I do believe it will mean Hasbro pushing out subpar toys, just cuz the noobs will buy anything with the logo on it.

how much longer until we get a series that only consists of repaints, with a Blotty tack on after thought of a story?

<_<

>_>

oh, wait...

TFans is thriving with more "softcore noob fans" who were into Transformers during 1984-87 (i.e.: while the G1 cartoon was around) and then got out of Transformers after that and have only recently rekindled their Transfandom after being exposed to BT/ALTs and/or G1 reissues.

The softcore noobs will only increase in numbers when the movie comes out.

Advantage: the fandom swells in numbers, prompting Hasbro to further expand the franchise.

Disadvantage: the proportion of hardcore fans like ourselves will decline further... Glue's fears may be realised if Hasbro continues to cater the franchise more towards the softcore/casual fans. I don't think we'll ever see a Classics Bludgeon or Hubcap any time soon (heck, they couldn't even be arsed to do Cliffjumper properly).

Actually, I am one of those "softcore noobs" who were only in during the G1 cartoon and then got out and now back hahaha. It is my hope they will cater more to me, although I'm not sure that I am softcore since I and those like me are probably a lot pickier than those who have stayed fans all this time (my perception, anyway). I think majin's referring to people who only caught a couple eps, whether it was back then or whether they are teens now.

I was just speaking to the effect of allaying the fears of those who are hoping the movie does well. The recent years of all the SW and comic property movies for which Hasbro makes toys have provided a good environment for Hasbro to invest in their own property brand again. If it fails, they will still have licenses like Spidey 3. If it does well, they will also cash in on their own property as well as being less reliant on licenses in the future.

It's an inevitability - and overall, I think it's a positive step to see the franchise expand and rise out of cult obscurity to the mainstream. The commercialism of it will have good and bad points to it.

Really worst case, TFs will take a break before returning. I doubt there will even be a lull though, and certainly not the end of either the world or even the franchise. If anything, I think the movie will catch the interest of a lot of those casuals who only watched a few old eps. Whether the movie really has legs will be measured by any sequels and if they do well.

Tahu - it's already started. I found that it started about 3-4 years ago -- just after Car Robot/RiD -- when Binaltech/Alternators started coming out and Hasbro began importing their modified G1 reissues.

I had a break for puberty, my youth & generally living a fun life for a while.....

:mwahaha

I never stopped being a fan. I was a fan at 6 years old, and never stopped all the way through Junior High School (the time when buying toys starts to be considered lame) to High School, College and my working years. When all of my friends started losing interest in MASK, GI Joe, He-Man, Thunder Cats, Silver Hawks, ect... I felt my childhood collapsing.

I thought I was really strange because I was the only one collecting toys during my teen years, and was outcasted because of that. The good thing about the net is that you can find people who is just as much as a geek as you are ^_^.
