Who else thinks Rhino DvD sucks?

I'm not only talking about the accuracy of the coloring, but the quality of the coloring. IN the dvd the colors are brighter and look cheap. The original colors have a darker grittier hugh. The dvd episodes look bleached.

I dont know, not the same nostalgic feeling.

In their zeal to provide "true" versions of the TF episodes, Rhino went directly to the film stock that the shows were shot on. Before this, they used the video tapes that were used in broadcasting the show. The look we are used to is what we saw on tv back in the '80s. By attempting to remaster the episodes, Rhino created flaws that weren't originally there, but were originally there. You see, some of the film footage they used did not have an episode with all of the effects completed. That's why some characters may not be the right color, or lights, like on Wheeljack's head, are missing from the DVDs.

The VHS tapes that Rhino released before the DVDs do have the episodes as they looked when broadcast. You will notice that the VHS versions have a sort of muted color to them, like a thin white gauze has been placed over the screen. The DVD episodes have vibrant colors, because they were remastered from the original film stock.

The one thing that I do not like about Rhino is the often shoddy work done on the DVD packaging. I have also heard that their G.I. Joe Season 1 DVD set has the incorrect opening for the season one episodes.

When DVDs came out I, loyal (INSANE) fan that I am, said to myself . . .

"Wouldn't it be great if "they" released the ENTIRE TF SERIES on DVD? Too bad that'll never happen . . ."

. . . and at that time it was pretty slagging unlikely. Now every episode adorns my shelf on the highest grade format available to the common fanboy in brodcast order. I'm sorry, but I refuse to give Rhino crap for that. (Even if they did release Gangasaurus Rex) If they'll re-dub OR subtitle the Japanese series we didn't get, they can have as many Primes on-screen as they want.

Yeah, I actually found it very ironic that in the packaging for Season 2 Part 2, they have a miscolored Starscream printed in the case art!

Coloring errors were always part of the 80s cartoon, but what I don't get is when the wrong character is talking. How many times would a conversation be taking place, and the same character would respond to something he just asked?

from what I can remember from watching the shows every day as a kid, it had hundreds of errors any way so I didn't blame that on Rhino. I'm more pissed at the actual producers of the show. Their animators must have had no sleep at all and poor translations from their slave masters. I can't count one episode at all that doesn't have at lease 2 errors. From Thundercracker being painted like Starsceam to 2 Optimus Primes on screen at once. And I'm not talking about the clone episode.

what episode besides the cloned one. was optimus on screen twice at once.

i dont remember seeing that. and i have TF:TM on dvd and video so ^_^.

I have to watch it again, but I think it's the one where optimus catches the Washington Monument. It could be a different episode. If I'm not mistaken Optimus sees the monument falling and goes running for it. Problem was while he was running to the left a frozen 1 frame Optimus was still standing at the right of the screen. It was like his spirit jumped out of his body. I'll have to watch it again to be sure that's the right episode. The dinobots were in that one if you want to look yourself.

I just finished watching all of Season 1 and the only real complaint I have is the sound. They added some special 'sound effects' when blasters are firing and such and it totally destroys the dialogue for a few seconds. They did do a rush job on these discs but I guess we should be thankful they exist at all :roll

Oh, you're one of those, "Be grateful they were released at all," kind of people. :roll

If TF DVDs were done by anyone else, they would have been better. I need only provide the remastered Robotech DVDs as an example. :tfgrin
