Who else thinks Rhino DvD sucks?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I bought the complete G1 collection of DVDs offered by Rhino Video a while ago and was dissapointed to find that the coloring was terrible at times. I own older videos which show the exact same episode with better, more accurate, coloring. On one instance Trailbreaker, the black pickup truck, was entirely red. I understand that the original film may have deteriorated, but damn, do some homework! :grr

Not only that, the way the coloring was done made that episodes look crappy.

Also, check out the DVD version of the movie. If you can obtain a video version (not produced by rhino) and notice the differences. The coloring where megatron gets sucked in by Unicron is wrong. Also there appears to be another dinobot, Snarl, inserted into the picture when the dinobots are stranded on the Quintison planet. Snarl isn't even in the movie!!! :fire

What the hell!?!

Am I alone in thinking that Rhino doesn't really care about quality and rather more about sucking up $$$?

:tfmad

Snarl is in the movie, but only for brief cameo appearances. And they probably got a hold of a cut of the footage that contained a bit more Snarl, that's all.

As for the other "errors", probably likewise due to multiple versions of the footage, and they just happened to grab the one that was a bit more inaccurate.

What is he doing the rest of the movie? He isn't in the dinobot attack on UNicron? Where is he? :tfhuh

Forgotten?

You can see him in robot mode through the window of Prime's shuttle as they make their run for Autobot city. Later on, when Cyclonus strafes Autobot city, you can see Snarl in dino mode through the busted roof, for a decent amount of time (enough to pick him out, and then some).

I believe those are the only times Snarl is seen in the original cut of the movie.

I'm just glad that I could get seasons one and two in boxed sets and they they had some, if ANY extras at all. They went beyond what I'd ever expected, but I do have to admit that I wish we'd been spoiled a little more. Teasers for the japanese shows felt kind of cruel in my eyes. >_:roll which, let's face it had more than its share of faults.

The only thing that really pisses in my vinegar is the Australian's just jaw droppingly awesome movie edition and our... not so awesome... edition... I have hardcore DVD envy.

I'm just saying that for a "remastered" DVD it seems more like a step back than a step forward. I personally would rather have a tape collection of the 1-4th seasons than the DVD. Only things stopping me are the availability of the tapes, the time to hunt them down, and DVDs last longer. :redface

from what I can remember from watching the shows every day as a kid, it had hundreds of errors any way so I didn't blame that on Rhino. I'm more pissed at the actual producers of the show. Their animators must have had no sleep at all and poor translations from their slave masters. I can't count one episode at all that doesn't have at lease 2 errors. From Thundercracker being painted like Starsceam to 2 Optimus Primes on screen at once. And I'm not talking about the clone episode.

Is that ALL that's stopping you????

t-man is right...that's how the origianl show was presented and that's part of the reason I love it. It's typical 80's animation...no attention to detail. Not everything needs to be re-done, George Lucas.....

what episode besides the cloned one. was optimus on screen twice at once.

i dont remember seeing that. and i have TF:TM on dvd and video so ^_^.

Errors? off the top of my head... Seeker colorization problems in nearly ever episode, other color model problems occuring on an daily basis (Smokescreen being red and BLACK in The Gambler as opposed to red and blue).. Scale problems (Carnage is infamous for this one, though it's hardly exclusive), consistancy problems (Swindle being among the Autobots in TROOP, Mirage being among the Autobots firing at the Nemesis in MTMTE pt. III despite actually sneaking aboard it to disable it, Coneheads appearing in Season Three despite getting eaten in the movie.. etc)
