Save the classics!

I guess I just don't get the hype. Okay, they're updated G1 figures. Yay. But is there anything about them *apart from that* that makes them really awesome and cool and desirable? I'm with siburke; Alternators were a much better attempt at recapturing the G1 magic for an adult collector audience IMO.

And yet I distincly remember that just a few months ago you said you had very little interest in alts and that classics fulfilled all you G1 needs :P

I have the benefit of hindsight now. :tflaugh

My problem with Alts is simply that it's all cars. And that they diluted the line with some very questionable character choices & repaints, never even finishing what I would have considered to be a "core" character lineup.

My problem with Classics (which I really didn't realize until I saw Classics Skywarp) is that the color schemes were not as homage-y as the molds themselves. There was a disconnect there IMO. Skywarp is (again, IMO) about as perfect as you could ask for. (You might say OMG you're addicted to G1, get over it, but the point of Classics was G1 fanwank.) Jetfire is another one that similarly matches color to mold in the homage department. But Classics Starscream and those red wings just look wrong to me. Bumblebee's frosting (for lack of a better word) looks wrong to me. Megatron's purple and green look wrong to me. And so on.

At the same time, the Classics still are very much "kids' toys". Personally, I would consider Alts or MP figures to be more fitting as "updated G1 figures for people who grew up with the originals".

Actually, to be honest I still think the RiD Car Brothers are the best "G1 homages for adult fans" that we've gotten. They don't necessarily resemble specific G1 characters, but they capture the essence of G1 in an updated, more complex form.

:pfx :pfx :pfx

I'll take it a step further and say that RiD produced better figs than any other "main" line ever. They might have been fewer in number, but I'll take quality over quantity any day. Just let it die.

Just let what die? People stating the opinion that RID was the best line as fact? I won't.

I just don't like the style of the line. Alot of good stuff in there but I don't think it was the best. I prefer most Cybertron stuff & nearly all of the Classic stuff to RID toys. Each to their own. Now just let it die.

Heavens no! Let Classics die. Stick a fork in 'em - they're done.

SWTF's selling better than mainline? How is that possible? They're just so damn fugly!

Having work at a TRU I can tell StarWars Fans are a lil more "commited" then your generic TF-fans, It wouldnt surprise me that one would buy a Fugly Tranforming Tie fighter, just to have it.

I think it has more to do with the fact that the majority of today's parents grew up with Star Wars and Transformers - and are simply buying them for their kids thinking, "This has to be awesome."

Oh man!

I like the Voyager & Deluxe Classic toys & (IMO) they should release more. The rest of the crap I'd have to agree with you though, but every line has stinkers*!

*Except Alternators! :tftongue

Geez, I love this guy! Listen to VTS Hasbro! He knows what he's talking about! :thumb

Thank you very much. Now the hands on this one are only temporary but check out Bruticus' new poseability. :tfgrin

My point is simply this they have molds from the last several lines that are great homages and they could easily turn a buck or two by just simply repainting them and giving them maybe a little something less or more depending on the mold to give us just about every G1 season 1, and 2 bot and con. So for them to let the Classics die now is just wrong.

Given how SWTFs are a dedicated alt-mode-first line, and since they're working with such strangley shaped alt modes with gobs of transformationally useless parts like multiple wings and so forth, I'd say they've done exceptionally well overall. Cybertron, which an overall great line, could use such an excuse. (I'm looking at you, Override! And wtf does Cybertron Prime turn into?)

I'm not sure why anybody would be cheering for the death of Classics; we already know that it couldn't possibly be the main line for at least a year, so the G1 haters will still have other things to buy.

I agree with that, but as a parent I can tell you that $90 is a LOT to ask for a single toy, no matter how "cool" it is.

And especially seeing as I can all-but garuntee he will be £90 in the UK.

On the issue of SWTF I haven't bought any not out of Principle, nor because I'm no major fan of Star wars, but because they are Butt ugly to my eyes.

Classics however, I don't see living for much longer, and while I'll mourn it's passing (I would LOVE a Blitzwing) I already have several of those I love (Well, they're released, anyway)
