smoke and toys

Recommended Posts

By this day and age, any smoker is fully aware of the disadvantages of smoking and can only make a decision on their own wether or not to continue smoking.

*note: by no means is this post intended to derail the thread*

I was sorta joking, just trying to encourage to work through it. Such a campaign would be hard to pull off really. :roll

Sorry, but I have to do disagree that every smoker is fully aware. Most smokers have been marketed to in such a manner that they think things like light cigarettes are safer. Most probably dont know 2nd hand smoke is a class A carcinogen. Warning on the pack or not. That's deception and IMHO is not being fully aware.

Congrats on quitting by the way. Its not easy I am sure.

Ya, I should have said "...any smoker SHOULD be fully aware..." Unfortunatly there are people out there (which tend to be the younger generation) that arent fully aware of the dangers.

And thank you for the congrats. Both my wife and I are looking forward to a much healthier lifestyle without cigarettes.

Back on topic, Buddykiller, I hope things work out for you.

Smoking is a hard issue, but it sounds like your mother-in-law is taking steps to at least cut back and hopefully quit when she's ready.

Anyway, I wasn't suggesting that you bully her into quitting (unlike Insane Galvatron's rather... uh... insane suggestion),

In my defense, I was joking. I wasn't serious about pissing in the water. But the analogy was used to make a point. It's about respect. Now for the most part, most smokers will be respectful, but there are those that act like they should be able to do whatever they want. Even if that means smoking wherever they want. They don't seem to care that other people around them would like to breathe clean air, but can't because they are not respecting that wish. The way he talked in the first post, it sounded like she was being disrespectful of his wishes of no smoke. The point is that although she has a right to smoke, others have the right to breathe clean air.

Yes, I'm very anti-smoking. I've lost a step-father and several aunts and uncles to lung cancer and they all either smoked like a chimney, or lived with someone that did. Second hand smoke causes cancer too. Atleast the smoker gets it through a filter.

Thanks to anti-smoking lobbyists, as you can see from that pic of an Australian cigarette packet I smacked on my last post, all our ciggies come with big-arse warning labels with the Quit hotline number attached (all places that sell cigarettes must also have signs with warnings and advertising Quit hotline) and graphic colour photographs of diseased body parts and organs. There are also TV commercials where you see heavily diseased victims (e.g.: people with half their faces and mouthes falling apart) pleading people to quit smoking. One ad shows a hospital bed-ridden man attached to life support with his wife and daughter coming in and his little girl telling him this story about how she scored a winning goal in soccer that day, and how she wished her daddy could've been there to see it. The man just clutches the girl's hand, unable to verbalise a response (so that the only he can praise her is to weakly hold her hand). But I digress... ;o

That actually happened to me. When I worked for FedEx, I delivered a package to a house that was signature required. I knocked on the door and the only person home was this little old lady. I couldn't see her real well, but she was unable to unlock the door and motioned for me to go around the back. When I did, she let me in a back door. That was when I noticed her condition. She was on an oxygen tank and bedridden. She was extremely feeble and week ( hence not able to unlock the front door ). After she signed for the package with a shakey hand, she asked me if I smoked. I replied with a simple "no". She said, "Good. I was gonna tell you to stop if you did or else you could end up like me." It was extremely sad and I felt bad for her. Let's just say that it was a sight I'll never forget. Whatever you do, don't just think those ads are all dramatic and untrue. They are true.

Well I would like to know this as well. I don't plan on selling my collection ever but I'd like to clean them up now that I've started to smoke outside. Thankfully, they've taken little to no damage thanks to distance and the fact that I don't smoke very much.

Preemptive: Please, none of this "death you should really quit smoking....blah, blah, blah" at 27 years I'm aware of the consequences of my actions. Thanks, though.

I'm in the same boat as Monsieur death333. I smoke when I am out and away from the house. Away from the family since they are non-smokers. And away from my collection.

As for giving up...muwahahahahahaha as if. And Car exhausts are just as bad, as well as taking the bus, they don't seal the engine away from the passengers on public transport.

Moral of the story, to each his own, and no smoking around the plastic collectables.
