Transformers Movie Starscream Prototype Images

My only disappointment with the Screamer toy is the color. I can accept the horrendous jet mode kibble as the price to be paid for a more muvie akkurate figure in 'bot mode.

Also, I'm of the opinion that Screamer's hulking design is probably a compromise to get a robot that turns into a 65 foot long jet to be about the same height as a robot that turns into a 28 foot long truck.

^Big, big amounts of truth in this statement. You don't think about it very often, because jets are big, but Starscream's bot mode was one of the worst mass-shifting offenders in G1.

I don't see what would be wrong with Starscream being taller, but I understand why they did that. Still, as long as he doesn't have those huge under-wing guns in the movie, Starscream's jet mode will look good.

Although, if he still has arms like that in robot mode, where would they go in jet mode? If they somehow unfold, with the guns mounted flat against the wings, it could work. However, that makes me wonder why they didn't make the toy like that.

As for his robot mode, his torso kind of looks like a complicated version of the Macross Valkyrie's robot mode. The does remind me of Waspinator. I just hope there is someway for these head designs to display emotions.

What really is taking all the life out of this mold is the dumbass way he's being stood up when his legs are supposed to be bent backwards at the knees. Like this he looks like armada Demolisher & that is not a good thing. For a voyager he looks like a lot of fun (of course then I really like the Cybertron Crumplezone mold/Wonder if those two would make good friends.)

As is I'm under the impression Starscream should have missils that launch out of those three barrel guns. Why is it with this proto unlike all of the others there are no missils or accessories?

I will admit the head could be damaged but to me it looks molded to look as it does. Wonder why they would go ahead and scar up a Starscream figure, clearly not many people want & not touch any of the others. I still say his face has been blown open. If you look really closely into that blob of red you can see a molded eye & other indentations that look to compose his infrastructure.

Character? I'm hoping for a real badass out of this one. G1 Screamer was a wimp & emo whiner. I'm hoping for the Starscream we saw in Cybertron. :thumb

what about soundwave?

Does anyone have the concept art for movie SS (not the proto)? I don't recall it being such blah colors. Wasn't it more red and white (Armada colors)?

incorporating the wings into robot mode was always fine. and every previous screamer had it. they were mounted on his back to be used as wings for his bot mode. that was the best method and kept him from looking horribly fat and top heavy

You're missing the point. Wings hanging off the back = not incorporated into the bot mode. This Screamer's wings make up part of the torso, remove them, and you're left with big gaping holes. Cut the wings off any other SS, and you've still got a fully functional body.

Saying they were used as functional wings for the bot mode would only work if every other Decepticon without wings couldn't fly around in bot mode. But they could, rendering Starscream's wings functionless kibble.

yeah, but i'm saying if they put them on this figure's back and had them function as actual wings, it'd have worked fine. clearly incorporating the wings like this was a big flop and a huge failure.

and i always hated that every decepticon in G1 could fly even if they had no wings. that was really really stupid

I think part of this film's reality will be that just sticking wings on the back of a non-aerodynamic robot won't let it fly...I'd expect to see Starscream grounded in robot mode. Which is cool. I really liked that aspect of Beast Wars, where they needed to convert to specific modes to fly.

Of course, none of this talk of "reality" lessens my desire for flapping door wings on Bumblebee :tfevil

what about soundwave?

Soundwave's mass-shift was needed for his alt. mode to work. He's a big robot that gets tiny to sneak into places and stuff. Cheesy, but it's got a sense of logic about it. Likewise, guys like Astrotrain, Jetfire, and Omega Supreme would get bigger to carry their teammates around. Its all a result of the writers bending physics to serve the stories, and what'cha gonna do? Eighties cartoons were like that.

But by design, Starscream was the same size as a robot that turned into a semi truck, despite the massive size difference between their alt. modes, with no story point behind it at all.

That always bugged me.
