Blue Tracks

I've seen yellow corvettes before. My local dealership has one on the lot right now. We can be thankful that chevy didn't chose to use the color of the Vet that this guy down my road has, it is orange.

1958 was the first year for a yellow corvette, then the next year for yellow was '65, and from '65-'81 yellow was available, and then it came back in '86 for the Indy 500 convertible pace car, stayed through '88, returned again in '90 'til '96, came back in '00-present. So there have been yellow corvettes for a long long while. And there were a few years that yellow wasn't available, but there was Tan, and that also has a faded yellow-ish look to it too. And also a few years gold was available too. But I've always prefered blue on a 'vette myself :tfgrin

EDIT: Just an addendum, 1953 and 1962 were the only corvette years to not have at least one shade of blue as a paint option. 1983 doesn't count because there was no '83 model year. Also, red has been available every model year except 1953, and that's 'cus all 300 '53 'vettes were Polo white, but they also all had red interiors. Also of note, in '81 there was only one bright blue metallic 'vette made. The only other colors to be ordered on only 1 car in a recorded model year was '77's Chartreuse. Just a little bit of trivia there ;)

Ok. Perhaps I should clarify my argument here..

I never claimed yellow Vettes -don't exist-. Of course the exist.

What I'm saying is, I see few to none on the Chevy lot. I see few to none on the road when I'm out. The point is, I fail to see evidence to support the "yellow is the most popular color for Corvette" argument that seems to be the basis of the suggestion that Chevy wanted Tracks to be yellow.

*shrug*

Regardless of Tracks's color, MINE will be blue.

Regardless of what you've seen, Yellow is pretty much Chevy's flagship colour for this particular model.

Yeah, it's got nothing to do woth what colour is most popular, but with how they want to advertise this model. You gotta admit, it's an eye-catching colour, and when it comes to advertising, that's the whole point. Blue just wouldn't stand out as much.

And I'm sure that when Tracks is involved, he'll want to stand out as much as possible.

Definitely. That's what I thought when I saw it. Tracks was a cocky son of a Starscream, and I rekon he'd be stoked with his new paint job!

actually MX-01 GM doesn't have a "flagship" color for the C5 or any car to the best of my knowledge unless it's something like a Grand National or any other specialty cars that only came in 1 color for most of their model run and then later other colors were added.

I honestly think that Hugger Orange and Sunset Orange Metallic are great looking colors on Vettes and F-bodies (Camaro/Firebird) for the most part they are rare colors and unique. I believe there were only about 600 Sunset Orange Metallic Camaros made from 01-02 the color came out in 01.

Another thing about Millennium Yellow is that it's listed as a "premium color" so it's a cost option instead of just being a different choice when ordering a C5, don't ask me why they still list it as a premium color way after the 2000 model year, maybe it's the way the paint is applied or something. I can look into it and give you an answer. Millennium Yellow is offered on the coupes, and convertables as well.

The C5 model line pretty much breaks down like this: coupe, convertable, Z06 and then you've got the CE option on either the coupe and convertable which is pretty much the color and a few other things you can't get on a normal coupe or convertable and then there is the CE Z06 which has the stripe package as well as the carbon fiber hood.

The coupe and convertable C5 come with a 5.7 liter (347ci) LS1 rated at 350hp and the Z06 comes with the LS6 which is also 5.7 liters but because of better flowing heads, different cam, and a few other revisions is rated at 405hp. The Z06 is the high performance model (not that a regular C5 coupe is a slouch) it's got better handling, braking, etc. If you want all out fast and aren't worried about a slightly harsher ride or not getting a lot of the "creature comforts" that a C5 coupe or convertable offer then you'd probably buy a Z06 but if you just want a Vette for the sake of getting a vette then you'd probably buy a coupe or convertable.

Another little tidbit is that before the Z06 came out in 01 (385hp version) the C5 could be had in either FRC (fixed roof coupe) targa top or full out convertable but when the Z06 came out it took the place of the FRC model, so now if you want a FRC Vette you're forced to either buy used or get a Z06.

Sorry for the long post, just thought I would share some more info on C5s

He always reminded me of Thurston Howell III. As such, I think navy blue is somehow a fitting color for him.
