Does the red sharpie look good on the scope lens? I wanted to have everything look factory done, with smooth paint and all... which means no streaks at all in the paint and clean edges where the paint ends. To do that, you sometimes have to put the paint on a little heavy, and use the tip of the marker to spread it out over the area. When it's a little dry, I used a toothpick to edge away at the corners that were overpainted. It takes a little time and patience, but it works.

Do you have any pics of yours? I would love to see it! :thumb

To answer your questions:

No, I couldn't remove the wings either... so I painted the wings seperately after the body was dry. The black paint markers will paint the whole thing, but again you might have to use liberal amounts of paint to do it.

For the chest symbol, I used the "shave" method with the toothpick, and it seemed to work well enough... I really didn't have any problems with it.

Good luck, and remember to post pics!

sharpie over the scope lens looks fine, though i didnt sand it or anything.

well, sadly the purple i got for the symbol is too light.

i might get a repo set, and also add a rub sticker to his damn gun.

no pics currently though, and i think ive ran outa black on the marker too [used alot on my vec prime repaint], so ill get another one tommorow

someone at tfw2005 said that the solder method works on the pins for the wings, might have to try that on the 2nd megs im workin on [a mostly silver one, but non transforming], or ill just slice the damn thing off. though ill need a 3rd damn megs as the 2nd one's scope is now on the gf galvatron

i can most likely get pics tommorow, ill have to drag the 'cons down to my mac to take pics though

so many damn megs, so little time

its definatly your megs though that started me out repainting and getting into all this!

great work again!

...now gimme that mace XD

  • 2 weeks later...

ok - i am testing some stuff...

I think i want his feet either white or silver with red detailing.

I also did the back of the head white.

Also the cap on his shoulder all black looks a little off - any other ideas?

Yay! i have begun!!!

how do you get the orange cap off of his shoulder

aight heres what ya do

take a small screwdriver [i used a phillips, off my pocketknife]

use it to wedge it off starting from where its tabbed onto in alt mode. itll come a little off

then use a flat blade [i used the knife of the pocketknife], and wedge it a little more going all around slowly, and it should just come off.

heres some pics of mine, i just need to add the red to the alt mode wings, and its done. though i added a tiny bit more paint than you on his left arm :P

i saw some small trapezoids on the forearm, those got painted too as well

nothing big, just alt mode pics as 1 side is drying.

inside barrell is red

Question:

Has anyone tried removing the cannon arm fist, and flipping it?

I have been trying to decide if it would be worth it to swipe my brother's and try.

By the way, This is an AWESOME custom, I would actually think about bying him if I saw one like that.

if you mean so that he can point it with the gun facing up, it would require cutting the hand off and attaching it again in the right position.

this all coulda been fixed just wit a damn wrist joint... though ive seen quite a few who used the alt hound hand/wrist in this mold to get that desired look.

Yeah... to just unscrew the hand and reassemble upside down doesn't work either.

The way it's made, the hand wont flip back in completely. :wtf

Ok - now this is why i dont KB.

now Meg's shin pads wont stay on. i dont know why. I think his legs are not screwing together properly.

I may just glue them on permanently in the down position.

As for style - i took my cues directly from what the other artists here did. nothing original at all. Still not done with the wings. sigh.

Megs.jpg

This whole process is just stressful and scary to me. Note the Tums directly behind megatron - i needed lots of those while working on this project.

anyway - while waiting for Megs to dry i got a hair up my ass and decided to FIX Windcharger like i always thought he should be. I didnt have a yellow marker but i had a gold - so that was how Decepticharge got "fixed"

the only thing missing is Blue eyes - but i am happy at how he turned out.

Thanks to Dv-MZ for his inspiration and MBwebb for the markers!!
