Transformers - Cybertron Galaxy Force Optimus Prime

Recommended Posts

OK, so I went to Walmart today...expecting to find the shelves full of the usual stuff that doesn't sell...endless supplies of Meisters, Skids, and Tracks...

Not to mention the endless supply of Cybertron Galvatron.

To my suprise, there was a partially crushed leader class box shoved under the shelf, but on top of the other leaders...and I pulled it out to find Galaxy Force Optimus Prime.

At first I found my self disappointed by the lack of change. Its really quite similar to the original Optimus Prime, in case anyone didn't already know that. I would recommend most to wait until he hits clearance to buy him...but there was one reason I didn't leave him on the shelf...and at the end of the review I will show it to you!

The first thing you will notice about GF Optimus Prime is his unpainted mouth area...when the mouthplate isn't raised. This is very disappointing. However I HATE the look of a mouth on Optimus Prime, and feel that should be reserved for characters like Primal...of which I am not a fan of. (No offense Beast Wars fans...I have a small place in my heart for the animals...I own the Beast War Anniversary Primal figure...he does rock!)

So because of the lack of paint, I try to raise the mouth plate...only to find it is near impossible. I pull the lever...and nothing, it doesn't budge. Figuring its just tight cause its a new toy...I grab a small flathead screwdriver, and pry it down. It budges...but just barely. After playing with the mouthplate for like 30 minutes...I think I loosened it up enough to move freely...even though it won't move up all the way.

Here is a comparison pic with the original Cybertron Prime...you can the see the VERY small difference in shades of red used. All the gray on the original has been changed to blackish plastic. Think of the $10 Cybertron Deluxe Prime. Not jet black...but off black. Hope that makes sense. Every thing that was blue was also replaced with this same black color.

The wheel found on the piece that is on the back of his leg lacks the silver paint for the rim...in case that is important to anyone...the original Prime also lacks it, but I never noticed it until now.

Here is a look at what he is like wth the mouthplate up...and you can also see the silver and gold planet symbols that are on his shoulders. Cool feature...and can be found on the $10 deluxe Prime (later waves) as well. Seems to me that the $10 deluxe figure is a reference to Galaxy Force Optimus Prime as opposed to the original Cybertron Prime.

Transformation is a little rocky. The same problem I had with te mouthplate also occurred with the crotch plate. The plate would not swing up for the transformation...and pushed down hard on the legs...but moving it a lot loosened it up...

Prime with his backpack, and fully armed. Here the glaring difference in his dual cannons are obvious. The red really does stick out. I can't say I like this...

Here he is with Wing Saber...I have to admit, that this...I actually do like better than the original Prime combination. Don't know if its the darker colors...but I certainly think he looks much more unified!

Now, so far...this whole figure has been pretty ho-hum...and I can only tell you that you are better off waiting till he hits clearance bins. I for one needed to buy him because I haven't found a new toy in ages...and because I needed a fun toy...and the toy is certainly as fun to play with as the original...

The real clincher for me buying this figure was the Planet Key. This thing really takes the cake, and its an excellent way to close the series! Some will say I am mad for buying the toy for a Cyber-Planet Key...but with some Walmart gift cards burning a hole in my pocket...who cares?

This force key has the paint, that we should have gotten on the first one! PLUS the autobot symbol is somewhat holographic! Check it out!

Again...its not worth the $40 I paid for him...but if you passed on the earlier version of Prime...he is still an excellent toy...and I just needed to have that key to finish my collection and bring it to a close!

Let me know what you guys think!

Same. It's not a great toy to begin with. Only its supermode is worth mentioning anything about.

My Wal-Mart is just the reverse. There are endless supply of Cybertron Optimus Primes that nobody wants.

I don't know what to say about this release really.

i have yet to see that version, and most I like it better than the first...I'll have to keep my eyes open.

Even though the close ups provide a better view of the new paintjob, I still consider it a useless repaint. It's more an adjusted version then anything else.

I picked this guy up about a week or so ago, and I have to admit I like this version better - but AFTER the subtle paint apps I gave him.

I painted the area around the mouthpiece, the "lights" on top of the matrix chamber, and some details on the lower legs. Looks MUCH better, and with the black legs and arms it goes together nicely. :thumb

Sigh, the more I see it the more I want it :tflaugh

BTW Squall42080 cool Omega Sentinel & Ultra Magni ( is that the correct plural for Ultra magnus?)
