To you put TF's on Layway?

Recommended Posts

as to the whole layaway thing... while I don't use it(I prefer having Blot right now or saving up rather than knowing I technically have it.), I can easily see its benefits. Hell, my family has gotten clothes on layaway, IIRC...

With expensive stuff like 50 dollar Primus, or a bunch of them together, like 4 Alts. That's when I use layaway. But not for one Alt, or one deluxe, or one basic. Depends on the total price with me. :D

reading over the thread i've seen people downing laying stuff away and using credit to purchase stuff, but sometimes thats all some people have. it's pretty easy to say "go find another job" when you've got a good job and are financialy secure. some people can't just "find a better job". what about people that are disabled? are you saying they shouldn't be able to enjoy themselves?

You maintain yourself first and foremost, then you can enjoy yourself.

I've noticed a lot of the people Starscreaming about first dibs and having cash on hand, layaway is bad, blah blah blah.

What it really is, is that you're either rich with a charge account mommy and daddy gave you (which is more likely) or you really, really bust your ass and made a rather nice paycheck (which is admirable, but it doesn't give you more importance over anyone else.)

Either way, you feel you're more important than the rest of us, and you're pissed that a poor person beat you to the punch and will enjoy the fruits of said labor at some point, while you still have to search elsewhere.

Well guess what? That's the nature of the beast, that's part of playing the game. Don't like it? Take your own advice and find another hobby, oh and:

SHUT THE Powerglide UP.

Get over yourselves.

This thread isn't about beating someone to the punch, or being poor, or being rich, or anything like that. It's about if people use layaway or not. You're getting a little carried away, along with some other posters in here.

Anyone can use layaway. It's up to the user whether he/she wants to use it. Like I said before, I personally don't use it.

For me, I'm all about money management. When I was in my late teens, I abused the Powerglide out of my credit. Not due to TFs, but to other stupid things, and when it came down to it, I couldn't pay off my credit. So my bad credit history lingered for 7 years - not being able to purchase a car via financing, couldn't get a home, no credit cards, etc. Since then I was able to slowly rebuild my credit with taking out small loans and buying small "necessary" things to establish a payment history, and now I'm in a pretty good situtation, with a very manageable debt (2k total debt not including house), I own my car, and live in a pretty decent place. And I don't make all the money in the world, either.

I also don't like seeing people on forums selling their collections because they run into trouble with money (not counting certain cases, there are exceptions). I know many of them put their hard earned money into the collection, but if they had managed their money better, then maybe they shouldn't have to sell anything. If I ever run into a money emergency, I can draw from credit and stave off the expenses with the available credit I have. And it's not because I'm lucky to have the credit; it's because I earned it.

I found using layaway useful, I'm not rich by any means and TF's are more of a mystery to me, in terms of why am I collecting the damn things, than a full hobby. It would be nice if Amazon used something like that, it would be a good help if you're ready to buy it the next day while you don't have the money for the product. It helps a lot.

Hey DN... let me give you some perspective since you don't really know what it's like to work for a living and stuff.

1. you go to a Blotty job day in and day out. YOu live "pay check to pay check" as you said.

2. You can't afford to do stuff like go on vacations or blah blah blah.

3. You pay all of your bills on time every month but have little money left over for anything.

Now imagine that you understand that this will be your life for the rest of your life. Pretty depressing right? So don't tell people how they should or shouldn't spend thier hard earned money to try and bring a little happyness into their lives.

Fix'd and agree'd.

WTF? OPP is just mad b/c he doesn't want to accept money managment advice (let alone just an opinion) from a whippersnapper.

And because of the foresight of parents and stuff I have an account formed from stocks and stuff that will more than pay for all my college and bills...so basically all the money I make from my jobs is disposable. I just notice and think some people here spend more money than they should on toys, and that part is most certainly my own personal opinion.

But then I guess I was just brought up to save money and not make a lot of wasteful purchases and stuff...that might come off as way elitist, but I was just (like I said) brought up to be thrifty and save, that's all.

I think most of the angst here comes from a) "don't tell me what to spend my money on," b) "don't bring out the repressed knowledge that I spend more on toys than I think I should," or c) "you are younger than me so don't tell me about how to manage money and stuff"

FIN :D

I wonder this some times

...and the point begins to come into view

It's totally okay to question your hobby

obviously we're sustaining ourselves just fine. just because you have to rely on lay away or a credit card to buy stuff doesn't mean you arn't taking care of yourself or your family, you just can't afford to pay cash strait up for said item.

For me, I'm all about money management. When I was in my late teens, I abused the Powerglide out of my credit. Not due to TFs, but to other stupid things, and when it came down to it, I couldn't pay off my credit. luckily, my parents own the house and the land on which we currently reside. it's one of the few blessings that comes from being born into a small rural community. i own my own car, it may be reconstructed, it may have been used, and it may not run like a brand new car, but it's mine ^_^ i gotta use credit cards and lay away though to get alot of stuff that i could neccisarily afford other wise. i got my priorities in line, sometimes i just gotta buy stuff now and pay over time.

I've done it, but only when a new wave hits and there are so many new TFs, that I can't buy them all at that moment. For example, if I were to find the new wave of Alts at Walmart, Prime, Mirage, and Camshaft would go on layaway for a couple paydays til I could get them all.
