Why Megatron SHOULD be a gun

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just thought I'd throw my two cents on this topic on the boards and see what other people think on the subject...

I think Megatron should be a gun because there seems to be a certain irony in the fact that the most ruthless, treacherous, power-hungry of warriors becomes totally helpless in his alt mode. Yes he is still extremely powerful but he needs someone to function. I doubt Megatron would ever admit to needing anyone's help for anything.

It's also cool that when teletran 1 did its orignal scan of earth the only thing comparable for Megatron was a gun. Whereas the other Transformers needed weapons, Megatron was a weapon. Teletran did process him as an ambulance, or a helicopter only as a means for destruction.

This one is ultra-geeky. If we buy into the whole mass-shifting concept, then Megatron in gun mode must be nearly indestructible. His gigantic robot form compressed so small must have one of the highest densities of anything on earth, making him probably able to survive anything (nuclear explosions, sun going nova, whatever)

Also, if Megatron becomes a tank then it takes a certain element away from Optimus Prime. Tank vs. Truck = no contest. If you'll all remember back to the G1 cartoon when Prime went head to head with Motormaster, Prime lost. And all Motormaster had was an extra trailer!

Anyway, like I said, this is just my opinion and not meant to offend anyone, I'm just trying to start up a conversation.

Thanks,

orionpacks

Firstly, mass-shifting means his mass has been.. er... shifted. Which means he doesn't become any denser, as density is mass divided by volume.  Lower mass, lower density.

Secondly, the G1 cartoon was inconsistent at best. When the Stunticons were first introduced, they had forcefields that made them more or less indestructible in alt mode. Then in other episodes, they could probably be stopped by a chubby kid. Then, in season 3, they manage to run Rodimus Prime off the road and steal the Matrix.

Thirdly, the reason Megatron was a gun in G1 was so they had a toy of comparable size and play value as the Optimus Prime with trailer set. That's it. Prime was big, and had a trailer that could become a battle station. Megatron was big, and had gun kibble that could become a weapons platform.

Prime vs Motormaster...Prime didn't lose.....he wrecked Motormasters junk pretty bad...if you call stomping someones balls, but in the process taking massive injury yourself, but still coming away from it losing, then ok...he lost...but if I recall, Prime came away from the encounter much more functional than MM did.

..in the end, we know that Megatron can never be a gun again. Not a real gun anyway (sorry, nerf weapons don't count).

So your choices are either more nerf guns, or bring back Megatron as a tank or fighter jet. Or Batmobile. Yeah.

Mass shifting is a fanmade concept for them. For all we know, they COULD be just extreemely folded/compacked in their alt forms without that "subspace" crap.

Reason for Megatron to be a gun: He used to be a gun. All other arguments are nothing more but rationalisations for that.

*is transforming his G2 Megs* Yep, I want for him to be a tank.

I'd rather Megatron be a tank. Tanks are superior to handguns.

By earth standars, but if you think about it, he'd basically have the same firepower as a gun... just concentrated on a much smaller place.

Uh... no. In both the G1 cartoon and comics humans have been seen carrying Megatron. Not to mention Soundwave and Blaster, along with their cassettes. That mass wasn't there. I'm not saying mass-shifting isn't a lame fanboy excuse to allow some toys that were made for a different line to be able to have robot modes as big as a guy that turns into a truck in a 1980's children cartoon, because it is. I'm just saying his density is about the average for a handgun his size, which negates one of the good points about Megatron being a gun. Honestly, I think if we got a version of War Within Megatron like we did for Starscream in GF, I doubt anybody would ever Starscream about him being a tank again.

*transforms G1 Megatron and starts taking sniper shots at girlfriend*
