Is this documented? That most I heard is Archer didn't care for the whole Autobot this and Decepticon that and just decided to go with the Japanese name. They've used other of Takara Homage's recently too. Cybertron Excellion, GF Optimus Prime and GF Vector Prime.

at a previous convention panel, it was either the last otfcc or sdcc, i  forget which one since i was at both of them, but Aaron Archer's reason was "I got tired of putting the word AUTOBOT in front of everything..."

That's the explanation from Hasbro I remember. Many people did speculate that the Jazz car was to blame.

I think Archer's kind of full of crap there. I think he just wanted to look like he was in charge, as opposed to the car companies, who actually are.

I can see that as being a valid point as well.

Archer claims that BT/Alternators was his idea. Takara claims that it was their idea - an idea that grew out of Car Robot/RiD - which makes perfect sense considering the absolute fan-woodage that was CR/RiD.

I bet all the crappy parts about Alternators were Archer's ideas - the plasticness, the stupid unrealistic shade of blue used on Smokescreen, uncoloured head and chromeless weapon on Wheeljack etc. d: :P
