*only reads title of thread and doesnt watch cybertron*

remember the original power rangers? they had to bring out that goddam megazord to kill every bad guy. show formula: bad guy shows up, hands the rangers their asses, runs away, they find him again, this time evenly matched, bad guy goes giant, they call for robot assistance, rangers win. and how is that city still standing after all the damage theyve inflicted with that damn bot?

Optimus Prime is old so he probably can't fight as good anymore like in G1 without all of the fancy tech, that could be one of the reasons why is always uses a supermode.

So you think Optimus Prime never abused his super mode in G1, eh?

Your Honour, Exhibit A... 141ps.jpgUS%2042.jpgUS%2066.jpgHardbacks.jpg

He very seldomly ever got out of his super mode at all... almost lived in super mode 24-7...

Ah, but the difference there was the "supermode" was not a "supermode" - it was a permanent upgrade.

As Skywave and Greensight have already pointed out, that's not true. Powermaster Optimus Prime had 2 forms - Optimus Prime and Super Optimus Prime, the latter form being when PM Optimus Prime merged with his trailer. But in G1 you very rarely see PM Prime in his normal mode. He virtually lived in his combined super mode!

His non-super regular robot mode looks like this: 141ss3.jpg

...who would merge with his trailer/base... 141ss4.jpg

...to become SUPER OPTIMUS PRIME! 141ps.jpg

Again... UK%20177.jpg ...and again... UK%20318.jpg ...and again! US%2071.jpg

:)

:rofl

Overused is putting it mildly. Great show but seeing him link up with either himself, Leobreaker or Sonicbomber just got redundnat. It was cool the first time and maybe the second but by ep 10 on up the novelty of it is long gone.

As for Prime being a bully nearing Cybertrons end. Yeah it's pretty silly but that was the point. Repetedly pawning the likes of Crumplezone and Ransack (not to mention Thundercracker) That IMO is the running joke of the serries. Kind of like how Waspinator constantly gets blown apart, flattened, what not isn Beastwars. :thumb

lolz

yeah and you can say the same for combining he must do that in every episode aswell

but im not going to nit pick its a show like shajaki pointed out thats the formula

and he did try once to fight megatron in normal mode and he got spanked it was in episode 1 of galaxy force

:tflaugh So true, in Cybertron Optimus always had to be in super mode or linked with Leobreaker/Wingsaber.

The combining ability should be used in dire situations, not just for the hell of it when you feel like blasting lackeys into oblivion!

Ya know, if Optimus Prime seldomly used his combined super mode, you all would be complaining about why he doesn't just use it as his opening move every time. It'd be like watching Voltron. Every episode, some new Ro-Beast pops up. The separate Voltron vehicles/lions fight the Beast individually and are beaten... only to have the sudden brilliant realisation -- "Let's form Voltron!" - Voltron is formed. Voltron wrestles with the Ro-beast for a while. "I know! Form Blazing Sword!" Ro-Beast is sworded and dies.

And let's face it, back then we all asked the same question - why not form Voltron and Blazing Sword from the get go?

The fights should always go like this:

"Deploy Voltron Force!" *deploy'd*

"Let's form Voltron!" *form'd*

"Form Blazing Sword!" *sword'd*

...end.

It's also more realistic too. A real fight is about survival and survival is about ENDING a fight asap, not prolonging it. In real combat, an ideal fight should end as soon as it starts.

Yeah, but to use a supermode to fight against a character 1/3 of your size, like Ransack? You can't seriously believe that's a justfied reason for "survival."

Maybe this version of optimus is really, really, weak without supermode ?  :tflaugh
